In just 10 days, the Trump administration has:
- Struck a deal to buy Russian diesel and eased sanctions.
- Suspended the bipartisan Graham-Blumenthal Russia sanctions law, just weeks after signing it.
- Restricted Ukraine's access to Starshield satellite services.
- Suspended intelligence warnings about Russian missile launches targeting Ukraine for several days.
- Threatened to cut intelligence sharing unless Ukraine stopped striking Russian oil infrastructure.
- Pressured Ukraine to remove Zelenskyy from power.
- Downplayed Russia's and China's assistance to Iran in its war against the US, dismissing it as "very little."
- Proposed unfreezing Russian sovereign assets and placing some under US control.
- Pursued lucrative US-Russia business deals, including cooperation on data centres.
- Proposed that Europe resume buying Russian gas as part of a Ukraine peace deal
If Trump were actually a Russian agent, what exactly would he be doing differently?

The kindly-looking old man in this photograph was named Matviy Danyliuk.
He died long ago, back in 1994. But he lived a very long life, reaching the age of 103. For many years, he lived in a small village in Volyn, Ukraine, where everyone knew and loved him. Among the local men, he was known as an expert fisherman and hunter. He crafted ingenious fishing gear, had a large family, and was a devoutly religious man.
And, as his grandchildren recalled, he would sometimes wear a small yellow-and-blue ribbon around his wrist and jokingly greet people with the words "Slava Ukraini!" This greatly alarmed his wife, who was terrified that the Soviet authorities would arrest him.
All because, many decades earlier, on January 29-30, 1918, the young military cadet Danyliuk had fought in the Battle of Kruty, near a small railway station east of Kyiv.
There, units of the newly proclaimed Ukrainian People's Republic, made up largely of young military cadets, university students, and even schoolboys, clashed in a battle, amid thick fog, with Bolshevik forces advancing on Kyiv from Russia.
After the battle, the Reds executed around 30 Ukrainian students who had lost their way in the darkness and fog during the retreat and fallen into enemy hands. According to some accounts, they sang "Ukraine's glory and freedom have not yet perished..." in ragged unison as they were lined up before the firing squad.
The Battle of Kruty has since become famous, and the memory of the students who desperately tried to save Kyiv has been widely revived in recent decades. The battle itself has also become the subject of numerous legends.
But Matviy Danyliuk survived. He went on to become the last surviving veteran of the Ukrainian People's Republic's army, and the only participant in the Battle of Kruty to live long enough to see Ukraine regain its independence. Unlike many other veterans, he was fortunate enough to escape Soviet repression.
And twenty years after he died peacefully in his own bed -- in August 2014, his great-grandson, Volodymyr Ishchuk, was killed in the fighting near Ilovaisk against regular Russian troops who had invaded the Donbas without identifying insignia.
In my upcoming book, I devote an entire chapter to a literary reconstruction of the Battle of Kruty, drawing on as many authentic documentary details as possible and telling the story through the eyes of the young cadet Matviy Danyliuk in 1918: how university students and cadets, barely armed and scarcely equipped, fought to save Kyiv and the Ukrainian People's Republic as Lenin's Bolsheviks marched to drown it in blood.

🛰 🇷🇺 🇫🇮 Specialists tracking this in real time now have harder numbers than "a close pass." Orbital Radar's latest computation puts the closest approach at roughly 26 meters, with earlier passes logged at 136 meters and 578 meters as Kosmos 2612 tightened its formation over multiple orbits, each pass occurring at essentially zero relative velocity, meaning the Russian satellite wasn't drifting past ICEYE-X36, it was flying in matched formation with it.
The deliberateness is no longer a matter of interpretation. Kosmos 2612 launched as part of a six-satellite cluster, Cosmos 2609 through 2614, and it is the only one of the six that has maneuvered at all. LeoLabs, the commercial tracking firm, said in a statement the movement "appears to be a deliberate approach toward" the US-owned satellite. CSIS researchers documented a two-week maneuver sequence beginning September 30 that brought Kosmos 2612 into coplanar alignment and matched altitude with ICEYE-X36, exactly the kind of orbital mechanics work that doesn't happen by accident. Dutch tracker Marco Langbroek, whose data anchors most of this reporting, called it bluntly: "an RPO without consent," rendezvous and proximity operations conducted without the target satellite's cooperation or clearance.
What makes the target non-arbitrary is who relies on it. ICEYE-X36 is a Finnish-built, US-registered radar imaging satellite, and Poland's own military has flagged direct alarm because its forces use ICEYE intelligence to identify targets inside Russia. A Ukrainian official told Axios the military works with ICEYE's capabilities, though it's unconfirmed whether this specific satellite supports Ukrainian operations directly. Either way, the pattern read by trackers across multiple countries is the same: a Russian military asset spent three weeks deliberately burning fuel and adjusting its orbital plane, altitude and eccentricity to shadow, at zero relative velocity and within tens of meters, exactly the kind of Western-linked space asset Russia would want to understand, disable, or demonstrate it can reach.
No tracker has found evidence Kosmos 2612 carries a destructive payload or that it struck ICEYE-X36. What's established instead is a precedent: Russia has now shown the technical willingness and capability to maneuver a military satellite into near-contact proximity with a commercial asset tied to Ukrainian and Polish defense intelligence, holding formation close enough that the only remaining open questions are what Moscow intended and whether the target satellite still functions exactly as it did before.

NEW: The Houthis downed a Saudi light attack helicopter over Saudi Arabian airspace that was likely providing close air support (CAS) or conducting reconnaissance in nearby al Jawf Governorate, Yemen, amid ongoing fighting between Yemeni government-aligned forces and Houthi forces there.
Other Key Takeaways:
Houthi forces continued to try to make advances on the western and southern outskirts of Taiz City on October 17 and 18.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed to resume salary payments for unspecified Yemeni government-aligned forces fighting the Houthis, according to Yemeni sources cited by UK media on October 17.
The reported Saudi-UAE deal likely involves the UAE funding and Saudi Arabia providing air support to the Southern Giants Brigades, which is a Yemeni government-aligned military faction that the UAE helped establish in 2016 and is one of the main Yemeni government-aligned forces that are fighting in the current conflict against the Houthis.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi announced on October 18 that Egypt will provide defensive military aid to Saudi Arabia if Saudi Arabia requests support.

A brutal and desperate modern slave-trade operation has just been exposed inside Russia’s second-largest city.
In St. Petersburg, state security forces are actively conducting aggressive, large-scale raids targeting migrant workers. However, this is not a legal crackdown - it is a forced mobilization trap. Russian law enforcement is intentionally targeting vulnerable workers with minor document issues, trapping them in detention, and systematically coercing them to sign military contracts for the war.
This cannibalistic tactic reveals that the Kremlin has drastically depleted its volunteer manpower and is now turning to state-sponsored extortion to fill its ranks. By abusing the defenseless legal status of foreign workers, the regime is actively harvesting cheap cannon fodder to be immediately thrown into suicidal "meat wave" assaults on the frontlines.
This horrific domestic reality shatters Moscow's hypocritical propaganda of global brotherhood, exposing modern Russia as nothing more than a desperate, totalitarian mafia state that hunts down human beings on its streets just to sustain its failing imperial slaughter

Acht Jahre. Acht Jahre ohne Freiheit. Acht Jahre Angst.
Dann kam Annalena Baerbock ins Auswärtige Amt. Wieder vergingen Jahre.

A catastrophic blast at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, Alberta has reportedly resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries during a live fire military training operation.
According to local sources on base, Canadian Forces personnel had been conducting exercises over several days when an artillery projectile reportedly struck an active natural gas well on the bombing range, triggering a massive detonation.
The blast is said to have levelled nearby tactical training buildings, with subsequent fires reaching munitions storage and setting off secondary detonations across the range.
The geography and infrastructure;
➟ CFB Wainwright has a documented history of natural gas production, with approximately 180 wells reported on the military property in 2014.
➟ Military range maps identify munitions storage, pipelines and designated live fire danger areas near Peterson Pond.
➟ NASA FIRMS satellite imagery recorded multiple thermal hotspots between Peterson Pond and Jamieson Lake on October 17.
Local accounts also describe hospitals activating Code Orange protocols, mobilizing stretchers and preparing for a significant influx of casualties.
The reported gas well strike, secondary detonations and hospital emergency measures remain unconfirmed as authorities investigate the incident.
Should these reports be confirmed, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved and affected.
