I, for one, welcome our new AI overlords.
A machine-learning model can be used to predict the future “impact” of research published in scientific literature, according to a @NatureBiotech paper. The model could aid in the construction of diversified, impact-optimized funding portfolios. go.nature.com/2SZkRbZ
New paper from Adrian Bird’s lab: MeCP2 – which is mutated in Rett syndrome - was discovered as a methyl-CpG binding protein, but it can also bind to DNA containing methylated CpA dinucleotides. Which of these binding sites is most important?
Mice where the DNA binding domain of MeCP2 is replaced by the DNA binding domain of a related protein (MBD2 - which can bind to mCpG but not to mCpA) develop neurological problems and die prematurely. So mCA is likely the key binding site for MeCP2.

NYT has a great profile of a titan in the Rett syndrome community, Monica Coenraads, and other heros for rare diseases like her. The examples these folks set should give all us researchers a kick in the butt to take our work ethic to the next level!

Great work from Adrian Bird's lab revealing a role for Sall4 binding to AT-rich DNA in controlling cell fate. Nelleke Spruijt in our lab did interaction proteomics (a long time ago! :)) for this study.
