Any reconstruction of the historical Jesus that does not include the many, many instances from our earliest sources in which Jesus tells stories that end with the messianic figure slaughtering multitudes does not deserve to be called a historical reconstruction.

🤣😂🤣🤣🫵🏼 👉🏼 2 Peter 3:3–4 said the last-days scoffers would show up saying exactly this: “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”
Paul didn’t miss the date. Peter already answered the mockery you’re repeating.
A day with the Lord is as a thousand years (2 Pet 3:8). The delay is patience, not a failed prediction, “not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (3:9).
The same chapter says the day still comes like a thief.
“Closer than we’ve ever been” is just arithmetic. Every day after the cross is closer than the day before. The fathers already fell asleep. You’re in the verse. 🤣😂🫵🏼

So I recently chose to accept an invitation to appear on Joe Rogan’s podcast. The interview is live now.

God’s main goal is a loving relationship. And that’s why he stays hidden, invisible, unapproachable, uncommunicative, inactive, unhelpful and ‘mysterious’. All of which are perfect characteristics of a loving relationship.

"Scripture interprets scripture" just means "My favorite scriptures, or my favored theological system, overule disruptive scriptures."
Early Christianity was, from its inception, theologically diverse.

Conservative Christians inoculate themselves against the profound problems found in early Christian teaching by reading only those texts deemed "orthodox," and then by reading these approved texts in light of some theological construct that harmonizes and smooths out rough edges.

The plausibility of theism takes a dramatic dive without an afterlife. But if you admit this, you are implicitly conceding that the actual evidence of our world is very unexpected on theism. You’re admitting that the world as we know it doesn’t fit. We need to imagine an additional world radically different from our own in order to make theism make sense.

Now apply that to Eternal Conscious Torment.

Allow me to introduce you to the concept of a “reductio ad absurdum” / “Moorean shift.” When you post the article “why raping babies for fun is morally permissible,” dont be surprised when people take your conclusion to be the surest refutation of your specious arguments in support of it.

Guy who thinks it's perfectly good and loving to maximally torture most humans for literally all eternity calls someone else anti human for for thinking that 100 rats might be worth the life of one human all else equal.
The most Schweitzerean church sign I’ve ever seen, but somehow I doubt that’s what they were going for.

I find in @RandalRauser someone driven by a deep moral seriousness.

In the last month alone on this platform I’ve expressed a desire to become Catholic and said that I regularly experience the positive effects of prayer. Does that sound like someone who has “dedicated himself to sneering condescension and public criticism of Christianity”?

FWIW this lost soul has been reached much more effectively by @RandalRauser’s work than by @InspiringPhilos 🤷♂️
