It’s the first day of school for me and my son, who is just starting daycare. I’m excited to be teaching a brand-new course I designed this semester, which explores depictions of the Vikings from medieval picture stones and sagas to modern graphic novels, movies, and video games.
Just got back from an amazing research trip. Two months, ten flights, four countries, and many happy meetings with friends and colleagues. Thrilled to have spent time with @ArmannJa on our collaborative projects, and to announce the return of ‘Saga Stories’ with @rvkgrapevine 🇮🇸

On the distant horizon, looking north, you can see the next probable Viking “way station” - the Blasket islands whose name may be Norse-derived. The Great Blasket is said to have had a runestone, but it seems to have been lost…thrown into the sea? Why when or how is uncertain.

Delighted to be back at Oxford as part of my summer research trip. Caught up with many colleagues and friends, and even returned to Exeter College for a high table dinner with the rector, Sir Rick Trainor, and the chaplain, Rev’d Andrew Allen. @ExeterCollegeOx @UniofOxford
