I have decided to launch a Patreon. I'll be talking RPG nerdy stuff over there, but I'll also design subsystems for rules, subclasses, magic items, etc. If you can support, I would appreciate it, but feel no obligation. It'll be heavy on the RPG theory :) patreon.com/MatthewCmiel

really? what a narrow view! Anderson did in fact write sympathetically & convincingly about girls & women; even Hemingway has a story from an adolescent girl's perspective, "Up in Michigan," that is a knockout; not to mention D.H. Lawrence, Scott Fitzgerald, Thomas Hardy & (not least) Shakespeare. if men can't write about women, women presumably can't write about men. educated people can't write about lesser-educated people, Black writers can't write about brown people, people from Maine can't write about people from Vermont, no one can write about anyone except the sickly face in the mirror.
Replying to @JoyceCarolOates
Yeah and he's a man purporting to write about a woman's inner life. I'll pass.

Honestly moreso than managing to finish the game in under 2 years (which required unhealthy crunch) I did respect DA2's complete swerve towards a narrative where you get relentlessly crushed by the forces of history in a genre that's usually very "great man" in tone
Dragon Age II was developed in less than a year and a half. With that in mind, it’s a borderline masterpiece.

People will sneer at this comment but its true. No other RPG is as unique as Dragon Age. You are just a person surviving a horrible setting. And while you live not many others did. And on top of that its the best companion writing in most, if not every, RPG.

This is not something I ever expected to see. Larian and Bioware started their trajectories in the games industry at the same time and Bioware led the way in making RPGs big. It's almost unimaginable that we're now entering an era were the name Bioware won't show up anymore when discussing upcoming RPGs. What a loss for all of us. Thank you for all the games. Thank you for the many hours of gameplay. Thank you for all the stories . You can be damned proud of what you achieved. I hope you all land well.

every year I see first hand how much time, effort, and passion qt devotes to the streamer awards and every year she gets shit from every corner of the internet that feels they deserve more I know it’s not possible to please everyone- but if you’re like me and inspired by the work she puts in and thinks it makes streaming a better space- don’t be afraid to be more vocal about it!!!

More than this, that would not be ideal! One of the great benefits of liberalism is that each individual can decide for themselves what meaning and value in life will be! We don’t need to agree, and can still live in the same region, how cool is that??
The notion that if everyone on Earth just thought Rationally™ hard enough, they'd all collectively arrive at exactly the same Conclusion is a fantasy that needs to die as soon as possible.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Goosebumps. For all its faults, Western culture is still worth defending.

Can never love this guy enough. He's already so fun with his weapon knowledge and stuntwork but also confidently tells people off when they push harsh beauty standards on him and his partner. And yep, TRANS RIGHTS BABYYYYY 💖💙🤍

Love that good guys are slowly reclaiming classical music. Or at least trying!

At times, the joy that life attacks me with is unbearable and leads to gasping hysterical laughter. I find myself completely out of control and wonder how could life could surprise me again and again and again, so completely. How could a man be a cynic? It is a sin.

Desperately need people to understand you don't need one perfect politician, you need a majority of ok boring politicians who are anti-bigotry and pro-equity and they'll start passing as much healthcare, energy jobs, and education funding as you want. Manchinmaxxing is better.

Many years ago I was teaching English in Milan to a team of Italian sanitation workers and one day I walked in on them having an argument about Verdi vs Puccini. Made me realise that in much of Europe, high culture is still just culture.

fear the hottest relationship dynamic is a woman acting like an unhinged little creature while the man just finds her endlessly entertaining instead of emotionally draining

Have to disagree. I don’t need most cis people to be willing to date a trans person (just an adequate pool of cis lesbian chasers tbh). What I need is for them to defend my civil rights and healthcare. “Ally” doesn’t actually mean total, or even broad agreement.
if u wouldnt date a trans person im sorry but you’re not really an ally and theres some stuff u need to unpack
