There is 0 doubt in my mind that Sam Presti has every dollar accounted for through at least next season, if not the duration of the big three’s current deals. The dude moves differently and has been maybe his most confident when reiterating that the 2A will not derail them.
Thunder will be in the second apron for the 2027-28 season. And all signs point to OKC being fine with that. Part of the plan.

Was off by 0.3 million, but still gonna call this a win. Presti has recently had several descending contracts, which will absolutely matter when dealing with the second apron.
Just in: Oklahoma City Thunder All-Defensive guard Cason Wallace has agreed to a five-year, $139 million rookie-scale contract extension, agents Jeff Schwartz, Max Lipsett and Marcus Monk of Excel Sports Management tell ESPN.

Cason Wallace extension window closes tomorrow at 5:00 pm. If no deal is agreed upon, he will enter RFA next summer. Presti has historically avoided RFA, most notably trading Harden right before the season to avoid him reaching RFA. IMO, any deal under 27.5 mil / yr is a win.

It is very obviously a two team race in the west, but if there were gonna be a sneaky third team to enter the convo, my pick would be HOU FVV just makes everything fall into place. Allows Amen to go back to the SG, and lets KD just focus on getting a bucket rather than creating.

The Pacers game somewhat revealed the narrative of NBA Twitter when it comes to OKC’s reputation. But with no Lu Dort and the Spurs having won the WCF (w/ Wemby’s antics included), I wonder if the narrative turns on them. (FWIW, I think OKC will be a “more fun” watch this szn)

Dude is letting it fly thus far in the preseason. In 52 minutes, he’s gotten up 26 threes and is hitting 50% of them. So thus far, following this pattern, Jared McCain will shoot a three in every two game minutes played and will hit a three every four minutes. Statistics.

Gotta remember that Stirtz played 37.8 mins out of 40 last year for Iowa, as their PG. OKC doesn’t need him to create. They need him to shoot off-ball. Last season, he shot 44% on C&S threes Defensive concerns remain, but he will thrive in this role offensively
Bennett Stirtz looks extremely composed... In total control in the pre-season. Lights out shooting. Setting up teammates. Rebounding his position. Looking like he really really belongs. OKC with another quality guard in the rotation.

Just say you don’t know ball. Just say you don’t watch OKC. 24 - 1 seed with no iHart or Caruso. 25 - 1 seed with no Chet. Championship. 26 - 1 seed with no Dub. Pushed Spurs to 7 without 2 of your top 4 guys Just ludicrous to give context to OKC’s opponents, but not to OKC.
Pierre’s Purge Take: The OKC run is actually overrated… Do you agree? 👀 Reminder: It’s a Purge Take, so Pierre might not even fully believe it. It’s just something that crossed his mind… But you can’t judge him for it!

Can’t help but be excited about the OKC playing style this season. Defense will take a step back w/o Dort.. but the offense is going to be so much cleaner. More ball movement, more creators, & better 3pt shooting One of the biggest differences? SGA 3pt attempts 📈

I think Presti’s draft strategy has adjusted and is drafted for the current roster. Whereas he used to draft some of the youngest prospects available, both Mara and Stirtz are older guys who can hit the ground running, but still on rookie deals. Threading the needle in a way.
I have mixed feelings about Presti's two-timelines strategy whereby they have a rookie or two every year that they're trying to develop but it's fun to both be in contention and have a new guy to get excited about. I'm already thinking "what if Mara is a 7'3 Gasol." It rules

Been on vacation w/ the fam, so I’ve been pretty checked out on anything outside of OKC. (Btw, if you want to have others look at you like you have the plague, walk onto a plane w/ an 18 month old 😂) Time to dust off League Pass.. Zards, Sixers, ATL all on the slate tonight

It really is staggering to compare Mara’s summer league highlights to pre-season. Dude put in some serious work in just a couple of months. Still have to see how it will work with Chet/iHart/JWill in the rotation, but how well he’s handled the volume of minutes is hard to ignore
LAST NIGHT: 12 PTS, 5/5 FGM TONIGHT SO FAR: 22 PTS, 10/10 FGM Aday Mara, the 12th overall pick can't miss in the preseason 🤯

Couple of things worth noting: 1) one of the more effective strats in the playoffs has been pressure the ball full court, which is more taxing on Shai 2) new emphasis on not allowing defenders to prohibit movement off-ball. It’s all Castle did against SGA in the playoffs
Here's OKC using Shai off-ball. Sets the backscreen for AC, causes a miscommunication, comes off the screen from Mara, and hits the open catch-and-shoot 3.

Gonna take a while for me to not hold my breath on every Dub fastbreak, but my goodness, he is so freaking good in the open court.

Brutal start to the pre-season for the Sorber believers.. But also very excited that Benny Stirtz is healthy, first of all, but also, seeing him in an off-ball role with SGA/Dub. Also, would like to see a lot of Dub/Ajay & Dub/McCain mins just for continuity sake.
Mark Daigneault said Chet Holmgren (quad contusion), Isaiah Hartenstein (ankle soreness) and Jaylin Williams (heel soreness) are out tonight. So are Nikola Topic and Thomas Sorber
