๐Ÿšจ MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: YouTube will start prioritizing original content and reducing re-uploads (RIP clipping) YouTube has just announced one of the most impactful changes to its short-form algorithm. Its recommendation systems (the algorithm) will start to further prioritize original content and reduce the reach of content re-uploaded from other creators without adding anything of your own. They highlight this shift toward originality, where channels with primarily re-uploaded content will see less distribution within the Shorts feed. It also seems like theyโ€™re really trying to put the focus on content with real value, while highlighting that YouTube doesnโ€™t want as many โ€œminor technical editsโ€ or โ€œtemplate-basedโ€ changes. Which is basically all that clipping was in this industry. Overall, while this will piss off some people whose entire careers were built on the premise of other peopleโ€™s content (mostly clippers), the change itself is amazing and will finally address the overall quality issue weโ€™ve been seeing.

Your intrinsic values are the things you value for their own sakeโ€”not because they help you get something else. Research suggests they influence more than you might expect. What do you think you value intrinsically?

Trump lunges toward and growls at a reporter (a woman) who asked him about why he's offering money to voters if his economic policies are working (Andrew Harnik/Getty)
Q: On the checks, we have $40 trillion in debt. If your economic policies are working, why do you need an incentive for people to turn out to vote? TRUMP: I'm doing it as a reward for people having to put up for five years and four years of a horrible situation caused by Biden Q: You also offered tariff refund checks-- TRUMP: Not you. Not you Q: And that didn't happen TRUMP: Not you. You're the worst

stanford neuroscientist david eagleman: "if you want to build real brain resilience, stop doing what you're already good at. you need to stay in the zone that is frustrating, but achievable." in this clip he breaks down why comfort is the silent killer of neuroplasticity, why your brain shrinks when life becomes routine, and how small, deliberate micro-challenges keep your mind young. if you aren't feeling minor frustration while learning, your brain isn't changing. watch the clip, then read my full breakdown on neuroplasticity in the article below.

Nike's market cap hit a peak of $280B in November 2021. It's now down to $57B (a $223B drop) and will be delisted from S&P 100. Former Nike branding exec Massimo Giunco wrote a viral post in 2024 laying it all out. He blamed CEO John Donahoe (2020-2024) for going all in on direct-to-consumer (DTC)...with a cameo from McKinsey: โ–ซ๏ธELIMINATE CATEGORIES: McKinsey advised Nike to get rid of categories (running, basketball, soccer) and re-classify everything into โ€œWomenโ€, โ€œMenโ€ and โ€œKidsโ€. The logic was that Nike was duplicating resources and a pivot to DTC would provide enough customer data to inform product decisions instead of relying on the category experts (eg. a basketball vet that spent 20+ years at Nike). A lot of these experts were fired and Nike lost their insights. This was a clear L because Nike quietly brought back categories at end 2023. โ–ซ๏ธEND WHOLESALE LEADERSHIP: Nike ended hundreds of relationships with wholesales partners and prioritized Nike's website over retail. The change looked genius during COVID but as customers returned to brick โ€˜n mortar, Nikeโ€™s product were nowhere to be found. It had burnt bridges with partners, who were happy to give shelf space to upstarts (this wasnโ€™t covered but I think On and Hoka took advantage of this for running) There was also a lack of feedback from retailers, which led to inventory issues (the โ€œdata-drivenโ€ insights from online sales proved to not be a panacea). โ–ซ๏ธPRIORITIZE DIGITAL MARKETING: Nike changed its marketing budget to focus on driving users to Nike digital properties and membership platforms. For decades, Nike spent 10% of sales on brand advertising to create an aspirational halo. The prioritization of programmatic ad spend meant Nike went from โ€œcreate demandโ€ (new customers) to โ€œserve and retain demandโ€ (re-targeting existing ones). The result was a slowdown in sales. โ€œBecause of that,โ€ writes Massimo Giunco (who spent 21 years at the company), โ€œNike invested a material amount of dollars (billions) into something that was less effective but easier to be measured vs something that was more effective but less easy to be measured. In conclusion: an impressive waste of money.โ€ The quality of advertising was also...not great. *** The focus on DTC is not surprising. Donahue was formerly CEO of B2B SAAS firm ServiceNow. Nikeโ€™s DTC business peaked at 44% of sales in 2024 (vs. under 30% before the strategy change). The digital focus seems to have commoditized the product, impacted Nikeโ€™s brand perception and created an opening for competitors. *** Original post: linkedin.com/pulse/nike-epicโ€ฆ
