BREAKING: The City of Pickering has ordered me to take down my video.
Yesterday afternoon, the City Clerk’s Office told me a complaint had been made about a video I posted. The video used footage from a public Council meeting, and I added my own voice-over and captions. The City gave me until noon today to remove it and confirm in writing.
I’ve taken it down, but under protest.
This was a public meeting. The City posts the recording for every resident to watch. Showing voters what happens at Council and explaining it is not a misuse of City resources. It’s how accountability works.
I’ve asked the City to:
Name the rule they say I broke. The section they cited only says what candidates may do.
Confirm I can keep sharing the original recordings with my own commentary.
Give me a copy of the complaint.
Both letters are below so you can read them for yourself.
I’ll keep sharing the public record. Residents have a right to see how their Council conducts itself, and I trust the same rules will apply to every candidate.
