The United States is hobbling Ukraine's frontline operations just as it is on the point of winning back more ground than the Russians are taking. An utterly loathsome betrayal of an ally by the Trump administration and the United States.
I held a coordination call on the situation in Ukraine's regions following another wave of Russian attacks. Unfortunately, 28 substations and other critical energy facilities were hit. Restoration work is underway everywhere, and electricity is gradually being restored to people. I am grateful to every repair crew and everyone working for energy companies.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine reported on preparing infrastructure for the heating season. We outlined in detail the key areas requiring attention from government agencies and energy companies, as well as regional and local authorities. Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Presidential Office team have been given urgent tasks regarding contacts with partners who can swiftly strengthen our air defense. There are political agreements that have not been implemented at the working level. There are also delays in certain types of vital supplies at the level of the U.S. Department of War. This evening, we will hold an additional meeting to review the results of all the contacts that must take place throughout the day. I expect concrete results.
Together with the Minister of Defense, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Commander of the Air Force, we set additional production capacity for turrets, which have proven highly effective against “shaheds.” We are increasing orders, and it is important to accelerate every process as much as possible – organizational, financial, and production-related. Instructions have been given to engage with the Baltic states on support for our logistics. I expect a report from Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on this.
There was also a separate report from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on information received from units using Starlink/Starshield services. Unfortunately, we have established that the equipment stops functioning at speeds of 130–161 kilometers per hour in various sectors of the front. This is slowing down our frontline logistics and limiting the use of various types of drones, particularly mid-strike drones and interceptors of jet-powered “shaheds.” This must be raised again with our partners at every level today – speed matters when it comes to protecting lives. I thank everyone who is helping! Glory to Ukraine!

Strong statement from a Republican. But let’s see if it’s followed up on. Note that this is not some big break from Trump though. Fritz Patrick is a strong supporter of Ukraine.
I will be speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team this week to discuss Starshield, sanctions, and other matters pertaining to the defense of our strong ally, Ukraine. I will be assuring President Zelenskyy that anyone who attempts to limit the use of Starshield for Ukraine will be fully investigated and will be held fully accountable, to include public congressional oversight hearings, and immediate harsh and punitive budget cuts to any responsible agency or agency head.
Congress will unequivocally reaffirm that Ukraine is an indispensable ally to the United States, that Russia is a self-declared enemy of the United States, and that the United States will 100% support and defend the people of Ukraine in their fight for their own freedom against this brutal, illegal, and unprovoked Russian invasion.
The United States must provide any and all defensive equipment that Ukraine needs to defend itself. The United States must not import a single drop of Russian oil. Sanctions against the Russian regime must be harsher and stronger than they’ve ever been before. Each and every one of these items will be brought to the House Floor—and each and every one of these items will pass on the House Floor by an overwhelming margin.
This is, after all, what Ronald Reagan would do. And this is what we will do now. Ukraine can, and will, defeat Russia. #PeaceThroughStrength

❗️Republican Congressman Fitzpatrick stated that this week he will hold talks with President Zelenskyy regarding Starshield, sanctions, and support for Ukraine, warning that any restriction on Starshield for Ukraine will result in investigations, congressional hearings, and budget cuts. He emphasized that Congress confirms Ukraine as an indispensable ally and Russia as an enemy, and demands full military support for Ukraine, tougher sanctions, and a complete ban on Russian oil imports, which will be approved by the House of Representatives.

A significant part of the pseudo-intelectual left revolves solelty around excusing ru imperialism and demanding entire nations to be occupied and slowly erased and then acting insulted when that doesn’t happen.
It is a strange world.
Because 5.7 million people live in three small Baltic countries (whose total size is less than a Chinese Tier II city). and whose half of the population lives in Europe, and another third are Russians who cannot get citizenship, and because they have traumas and bad memories of the Soviet rule, the entire world of 8 billion people should go into a nuclear apocalypse and die.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Baltic countries lie entirely in Europe. Non-citizens comprise ~9% of Latvia's population, ~4-5% of Estonia's and near zero in Lithuania—not one third—while ethnic Russians total ~14% overall (most with citizenship).

Some quick takes on Russia's morning government reshuffle: no change, of course. This is rearranging the furniture, not renovating the house. The deputy prime ministers responsible for the war and asset redistribution, Manturov and Patrushev, kept their posts. Looking for a policy shift or clues about the war or property redistribution in this reshuffle is pointless.
The real story is Grigorenko’s departure. The head of the government apparatus is the key administrative post: every document and instruction passes through it. Grigorenko is an old and important ally of PM Mishustin. Okladnikova is a strong finance professional with long experience working across government bodies, but she carries far less bureaucratic weight. For now, this looks like a weakening of Mishustin, and where Grigorenko lands will tell a lot. One caveat: Grigorenko had tense relations with practically everyone in the cabinet, so his exit may also be a trade Mishustin was willing to make.
Someone who knows Okladnikova describes her as a good communicator with a strong grasp of how the decision-making system works. She is from Krasnoyarsk and has spent her whole career in public service, first in the regional administration, then at the Finance Ministry from 2012.
Trutnev. He has had a long-running conflict with Mishustin. Reportedly, he is moving to a quieter role in the presidential administration.
Transport sector reshuffles as expected. The Rotenbergs keep their grip on the sector. Savelyev went to the Duma, and Nikitin takes his place. Yadrov knows the bureaucratic world well: he started as an air traffic controller at Vnukovo-2 and quite literally landed government planes and oligarchs’ private jets.
Siluanov. Combining the posts of deputy prime minister and finance minister is a long-standing tradition: Kudrin held that exact position until his resignation, and Siluanov did the same in 2018–2020, then as first deputy prime minister. The jokes about him as a future prime minister have already started, but I don’t buy it: this is a return to a familiar arrangement, not preparation for a move. The more interesting question is how responsibilities will be divided, which should be announced within a week. The key thing to watch is whether Siluanov picks up the economy as a whole, currently overseen by Novak. If he does, that’s a real power gain. If not, it’s a title on top of the authority he already has.

It hadn’t occurred to me that Trump views Putin as a fellow billionaire, but it’s true. Putin’s net worth has been estimated at $70 billion to $200 billion. Trump, who made more than $2 billion last year, no doubt respects anyone who manages to make so much money in office and to cling to power for so long. wapo.st/47o44SX

Good morning and Happy Monday to everyone who agrees that Kamala Harris was absolutely 100% right about trump's intention to betray Ukraine, out of his weakness and his pathetic need to be accepted by Putin.
His capitulation to Russia is a DISGRACE.

A good summary of how much Meta is in the tank for Trump. And a reminder that the authoritarian threat comes not just from within the Trump administration but from its oligarchic allies. Oligarchic power is now a clear and present threat to our democracy.
