The joys of parenthood really can’t be overstated. Looking into your child’s eyes and knowing they’ve never chosen a basis for a vector space or asserted two objects are isomorphic without specifying an isomorphism—there’s just nothing like it.
This entire thread is everything wrong with academia. I hope to one day help in disassembling the systems that incentivise people to be like this.
Talk to whoever you think is interesting at any conference, it doesn't matter if they're a grad student at a "low-ranking" institute

I'm visiting family in Houston right now and I love how unpredictable the weather is. In the morning it's clear skies, then torrential rains for an hour around 12 pm, then back to sunny at 1 pm.
We're off celebrating my wife's birthday this weekend and we found a long empty hallway. I took this photo of my son and it sorta looks like it could be a movie poster for the shining 2.
