Mental gymnastics level: Expert. Elon wants to give the shares 100% directly to the kid. Critics: “No, run it through the state so 30% goes to admin, 20% to fraud, and 5% maybe reaches them. Anything else is bad.”
Hi @elonmusk , we’ve conducted the most comprehensive study to date on tax unfairness in the United States. We found that you, like your fellow billionaires, pay a lower effective tax rate than the average American. So if you really want to help the American people, I have a better suggestion than charity: pay more taxes. 🧵

In 2021, the head of the UN World Food Programme said $6 billion from Elon Musk could solve world hunger. Elon replied: publish the plan, right here, publicly, and I'll sell Tesla stock on the spot. The plan came out. And when you read it, it wasn't a plan to solve hunger. It was one year of food for 42 million people. A twelve-month subscription. And the year after? Start over. A few months later, Elon summed up his view: if you care about the reality of goodness rather than the perception of it, philanthropy is extremely difficult. "Reality of goodness over perception of goodness." That line stuck with me for weeks. Does philanthropy actually work? Gates-style philanthropy is first and foremost institutional capture. Foundations funding NGOs, funding governments, funding programs, producing reports, producing photos. Everyone's happy, and the aid machine keeps itself alive. Sixty years and hundreds of billions later, much of Africa is still dependent on aid. Zambian economist Dambisa Moyo laid it out in Dead Aid: aid breeds dependency, feeds corruption, and short-circuits the only mechanism that has ever lifted a country out of poverty. So what actually works? It's been tested. In Kenya, Berkeley researchers working with GiveDirectly randomly selected villages and gave every poor household about $1,000 in cash. No program. No training. No conditions. Just cash. The result: people bought metal roofs, livestock, started small businesses. Barely any inflation. And every dollar injected generated around $2.50 of economic activity locally, including for neighbors who received nothing. Why? Because you didn't give them charity. You gave them capital. You primed the pump. And that's where everything hinges: ownership. Hernando de Soto showed that the world's poor hold trillions of dollars in assets, but without recognized property titles, it's dead capital. You can't borrow against it, pass it on, or grow it. Where property rights are respected, the system starts running. Where they aren't, no amount of aid will ever be enough. Now reread Elon's post. "Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many." That's not a meal. That's not a handout. That's a property title. A piece of the company building the infrastructure of a multiplanetary civilization, owned directly by millions of kids. A kid who gets a handout depends on the state. A kid who owns a share of SpaceX owns a piece of the future. He learns what an asset is, he has a stake in the economy working, and one day he'll vote as an owner, not as a client of the state. Gates buys perception. Musk distributes ownership. The reality of goodness versus its perception. And it's absolutely brilliant.

The ridiculous arguments by Ambani’s army of Internet shills make no sense On the one hand, they say Starlink couldn’t possibly compete with the amazing low prices offered by Ambani’s de facto monopoly in India and then, in the same breath, they essentially claim that Starlink would be too strong of a competitor! This is absurd hypocrisy and hyperbole. The reality is that competition would greatly benefit the average citizen in India by giving them more choices, as it always does. Ambani’s profits will be lower, but he is not going out of business. And, obviously, if Starlink is too expensive in India, no one will buy it, so SpaceX will need to make pricing affordable.
Something feels off with this chorus of “India’s internet is great and super cheap” … the data shows that Indian market is absolutely dominated by mobile. When they say it’s cheap and well connected factually this only applies to mobile usage. This makes sense because a tower connects thousands of subs instantly after construction and running fiber is a building by building or resident by resident job. This is also why “fixed wireless” has started growing fast. Follow the incentives. It’s the cheapest and shortest route to revenue. Due to this, India is amongst the highest mobile bandwidth usage populations on the planet. 30-40GB/month. (20-50% above US/UK usage) However, home Fiber lines in India pull closer to 300GB/month. 10x gap For context, that gap in the US and UK is 20-30x. It’s pretty ubiquitous that if you have access to a lot of more bandwidth you will use it. Bandwidth abundance does not favor mobile devices. I’d argue that it’s not very hard to believe that these paltry sub 5% fixed customer penetration numbers would be much higher if a cost effective alternative existed. Is that alternative existed it wouldn’t be crazy to expect to see the fixed customer numbers jump from 6% to maybe 10%, 15% or 20%. 100M-200M customers. And if the rest of the world is any precedent that would lead to a dramatic increase in overall bandwidth used. However, that would mean that mobile bandwidth usage would likely drop or stagnate with in home mobile usage.

At 47 he paid the SEC $20 million for a tweet a jury later found him not guilty for. If he hadn't paid, Tesla would have gone bankrupt the same day: His CFO told him the banks would pull every credit line instantly. He calls it a hostage negotiation. Then he explains why the SEC never touches hedge funds. Save this.

The censorship industrial complex is going on the offensive. New legislation being field tested in Australia would give the government the power to run AI bot networks/sock puppets, apparently to secretly influence & manipulate online debates. Creepy af. H/t @NAffects @MikeNayna
The censorship industrial complex suffered major setbacks in recent years. But now the censors are back with a vengeance: successful lawfare that could cost Meta tens of billions for not censoring enough; two major Hollywood movies; and the worst censorship legislation yet.

To the barricades. I thought it was a gee-up, but the draft legislation actually refers to “sock puppets” and allows eSafety Karen to create these “false or fictitious identities” to generate any type of “material” (propaganda) — “without limitation” — using “artificial intelligence.” Unbelievable. Just unbelievable. But it’s there in black and white. Look for yourself … infrastructure.gov.au/sites/… This proposed legislation empowers eSafety Karen to create an unlimited number of fake accounts using artificial intelligence to “generate material” — that is: anything the government wants to push. Australians need to rise up. Civil disobedience might even be needed to stop such laws. This cannot be allowed to pass Parliament. If you were ever going to take a stand against a proposed law - this is it.

🚨 BREAKING: Secretary RFK Jr. reveals that he fired the CDC vaccine chief because for 7 MONTHS Kennedy was BLOCKED from getting vaccine safety data. This person also STONEWALLED money going to Texas to help with measles...he was a full-on TRAITOR, holy crap! "I gave the order, I'm running this agency, how come nothing's happening?" "And then we tried to get the vaccine safety data language - the data that supposedly the CDC tries to use to make good decisions on whether vaccines are hurting people and whether there are side effects. For 7 MONTHS, he stonewalled us so that we could not get that data!" "He's also the individual that runs the VAERS system, which is the surveillance system for injuries that captures, according to CDC's own study, fewer than 1% of vaccine injuries. This is malpractice." "These people are the people who ordered our children to walk around in masks. They're the people who closed our schools. They're the people who imposed social distancing with no science, shut down our businesses, and they need to GO." "We need new blood, and we need new people who are committed to public health and integrity and gold standard science."
