10 years ago today, when I was 16 years old, I published MLG Antivirus on @YouTube. The most viewed MLG video of all time.
I have compiled some fun facts about it that you might enjoy reading!
That's it! MLG Antivirus means a lot to me and for a lot of people, for me it meant a life changing moment where I went from being just a popular MLG channel to becoming the number #1 and having the honor to be the creator of the most watched MLG video of all time. For many of you it means simpler times, Internet nostalgia overload and having a blast watching MLG videos on YouTube. Thank you for sharing that with me, I will forever be grateful.
It's always crazy when I receive messages of people telling me they used to watch my videos when they were like 8-10 years old, so I know these videos definitely marked an era for many and is a nostalgic for many!
The MLG Antivirus will be forever in our hearts ❤️
Thank you for reading - Materialisimo
The last few days before upload the nerves kicked in because I had no idea what people would think about the topic I chose, which I am very aware it can be controversial.
However, it looks like I found a good balance and my efforts to make it more digestible to the average viewer were very well worth it.
The only thing I have not seen a single comment on is... sound design, so I wanted to pay a little tribute to the 3 weeks of full time work I dedicated to make the most epic sound design I have ever done in my life. The screenshots don't show all but you get the idea, the 3rd screenshot shows a zoom-in to the most SFX dense part of the video.
It was done in Vegas Pro 12, while making it, I learned the fun fact that Vegas was originally a sound design software called Sound Force many years ago. That explained why I have always thought that Vegas Pro is a more than capable software to edit sound. The orange marker spam is because I imported the rendered video from After Effects into Vegas and had no reference as to where the cuts were, so I basically had to mark down all cuts, events etc. from the video.
The workflow to get the ball rolling on sound design was absolute bananas, I cannot describe how difficult was to manage everything out, the amount of sounds I downloaded and also my efforts to normalize the audio loudness levels so it matched (almost) perfectly to what YouTube wants. My video ended up having just a -0.1dB deficit below the recommended level 🔥🔊
I know it's random to start talking about technical audio stuff but the truth is... I could write an entire fucking book regarding all the things I learned while making this thing, it is with no exaggeration, absolute madness. I originally had planned to make a blog post talking about the biggest challenges I faced, fun facts etc.
Is that something you would be interested in?
I cannot even share After Effects screenshots in here because there are a gazillion compositions and layers that a simple screenshot cannot do justice.
Forgot to include sound envelopes (vol/pan) in my screenshots. Basically these are nodes you add in the timeline where you can modify Volume (dB) and Pan (L/R) values.
I put in a lot of effort to make a "surround" experience, if you listen with closed headphones it is noticeable how some sounds go from left to right or viceversa.
It's all in the details 🔊
Wanted to thank everyone that commented on my last video, you made my year! All the comments saying they missed my videos and that even an improvement is noticeable almost made me cry, it was a bit surreal seeing so many of you saying welcome back with a 9 year subscriber badge.
