Postdoc in Organic Chemistry @WerzLab @UniFreiburg @FreiburgChem
Are you an outstanding (preferentially female) scientist looking for the next research opportunity?
Join the Werz lab through Humboldt Foundation @AvHStiftung (fast-track application). Deadline: October 31, 2026.
Our News & Views on Hong’s work is now out in Nature Catalysis!
Have a look at our perspectives on this fabulous chalcogen-based catalyst. Congratulations to Seung Youn and the team for the fantastic work!

1️⃣ equivalent of Se(III) = 1️⃣ equivalent of linchpin directly from C–H bonds.
In our latest preprint, we report the use of cationic selenuranes as dump-and-stir reagents for the late-stage formation of linchpins.
No need for additional activators. Only atmospheric O₂!

It was a great pleasure hosting Asst. Prof. Javier Mateos @javiml_94 from the University of Vienna for an exciting lecture on selenium-based reaction development, followed by fruitful discussions with our faculty and students!
Always happy to reunite with friends!
Our first adventure in low-energy photoredox catalysis is now out in @J_A_C_S!🚨
We demonstrate that replacing lighter chalcogens with selenium in established organic photocatalysts enables photocatalysis with lower-energy light.

To redox or not to redox? That is the question🧐
Work led by @irenessordo and @Sfg_109 on zwitterionic stibinidenes shows how catalyst speciation diverts the mechanism and unlocks diverse C–F bond functionalizations - now in @angew_chem

After visiting the Christmas markets of Vienna (and forgetting the routine group picture), we celebrated the end of the year with a laser tag session, finishing 2025 on a high note.
Happy holidays to everyone!🎄🌟
One year of the Mateos Group in Vienna – time to update the group picture! Grateful for the energy, talent, and passion of this growing team.
A great way to celebrate our first year in Vienna!
Our Se(III) radical project has been funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF)!!
🚨PhD & postdoc calls coming soon🚨
Stay tuned!
