Several military vehicles and manned riot police trucks have been seen patrolling Harare suburbs. We hope the @PoliceZimbabwe will alert the citizens on the purpose of the drills to allay their fears as there has been a trend of clampdown on citizens recently ahead of #SADCsummit

1. DEAR @zhrc365 : there are numerous reports of arbitrary arrests, detention and torture of #HRDs, #HumanRights & prodemocracy activists in #Zimbabwe of late. Please put us in confidence, exercise your mandate, investigate and inform the nation. This is test of your independence
2. @zhrc365 remember you also have a public protector nandate and if there are such widespread allegations of administrative injustices, we are sure it should concern you even though no official complaint is made, it's a public interest issue.
@ZLHRLawyers @citezw @SAHRDNetwork
3. Greetings @GenderZimbabwe the allegations of violations against #HRDs currently happening in Zimbabwe have a gender angle. May you please show your independence and investigate this alleged gendered torture and abuse and put the nation in confidence.

The media is a critical partner in the promotion of human rights. The media is needed to cover human rights events otherwise the human rights movement will be lost without enough media coverage.- @ubhudikhumbu

One of the panelists @ubhudikhumbu the director of @MatHumanRights notes that the work done by civic society is largely complimented by the media and relies on the coverage of the media. He adds that when civic society fails to hold authorities to account, the media is expected to do so.
