Bitcoin reached $2 trillion before anyone offered a credible way to hold it. That is the strongest evidence of product-market fit in finance, and the main reason most people still call it speculative.
Holders have historically had two options. Self-custody makes you the last line of defense against device failure, supply-chain compromise, lost backups, and physical attacks. Third-party custody puts it all on one company, and the record runs from Mt. Gox to FTX. Last week’s Ledger incident showed again what a single point of failure costs.
Multi-Institution Custody removes it: a segregated vault secured by three independent institutions, so no one device, person, or company can lose your bitcoin.
@MTanguma on the third way.

Not your keys, not your coins. The right to self-custody is a hallmark of Bitcoin and blockchain technology and a principle that I believe in 100%.
The @CFTC is committed to protecting the rights of blockchain users and software developers, while also protecting customers’ assets when they choose to rely upon a trusted party to custody or exchange their assets.

Inside Bitget's $388M Hack: How the Attackers Got In xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1dGYlaOYY…

🚨 Bitget crypto exchange confirms $351.6m stolen in a major hack.
Interesting timing.
Just 7 days ago Bitget published Proof of Reserves showing a 135% reserve ratio.
They say the hack only affected hot/warm wallets, cold storage is secure and their $464m Protection Fund is sufficient to cover the entire loss.
Withdrawals are currently suspended.
So now we get a real-time stress test of Proof of Reserves + their Protection Fund.
Bitcoin wasn’t hacked.
A custodian was hacked.
Let’s see whether Bitget’s reserves and Protection Fund perform as advertised.

-Bitget Exchange
Replying to @bitget
[UPDATES] We are currently working with independent third-party experts Mandiant and SlowMist for a full investigation.
Our first priority is our users. User balances remain intact, and Bitget's User Protection Fund covers the impact on this platform-wide incident.
Bitget Wallet operates as a self-custodial wallet on a completely separate and independent infrastructure from Bitget Exchange and was not affected by this incident.
Bitget Wallet users' assets remain onchain under users' control and remain unaffected.
The Bitget Exchange platform continues to operate normally.
Withdrawals are still temporarily paused while we complete additional security checks, and we will restore them as soon as we are confident that it is safe to do so.
We know that during an incident like this, users want answers quickly. We will provide timely updates through Bitget's official channels.

With CLARITY stalled, I expect the SEC, CFTC, and Treasury to advance rules under existing law, banks to expand Bitcoin custody and loans against it, and more capital to favor Bitcoin and digital credit. GENIUS supports stablecoin adoption. Progress need not wait for Congress.

Everyone is actively working to resolve this and we'll share information as the situation develops. As a @Liquid_BTC wallet, Liquid functionality in @AquaBitcoin is impacted, but Bitcoin transactions will still work normally.
These are difficult times but we'll pull through. 🙏
We are aware of a security incident on @Liquid_BTC. Purported white-hat hackers have withdrawn ~4,000 BTC (~$320 million) from the Liquid Federation wallet. The @Blockstream team is working on contacting them on-chain with a signed message.
What we know so far is that the funds were withdrawn via the SideSwap PAK (Peg-out Authorization Key), but that key was not compromised, nor were any others.
Exchanges have been notified and have already paused (or will pause) LBTC deposits and withdrawals. Other Liquid assets such as USDT, DePix, and RWAs are unaffected by this security incident.
Bridge nodes have been temporarily disabled, so no new transactions can be submitted to the network. Effectively, the Liquid sidechain is paused until this issue is resolved.
Liquid wallets will be impacted, and we're sorry for any inconvenience. Federation members are actively working on resolving this so we can restore normal network activity.
You can monitor the situation via @mempool's liquid.network site below:

The recent Coldcard incident isn’t just a hardware wallet story.
It is a reminder that protecting your Bitcoin requires just as much thought and planning as acquiring it.
(When it comes to the acquiring part of the equation, we prefer mining it, but that’s a story for another day.)

“What the technical customers want is control over their compute, their models, their data stack, and their alpha. They want to know they own the means of production, and it's not being transferred to someone else.”
"Who owns the data? Are the prompts secure? Is this being transferred to you?"
"If it was so valuable, and I can make you a billion dollars, wouldn't I say I'll make you a billion dollars and I want 30%? Why are they charging for tokens if it's so valuable?"

Bitcoin Rails x MARA Foundation presents:
THE POLITICS OF POST-QUANTUM BITCOIN | with Nic Carter
🔗 YouTube: youtu.be/3ByUtLGSAqM
🌿Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/28h…
Less than nine months ago, investor and researcher
@nic_carter sparked one of the most heated debates in Bitcoin's recent history — when he published a series of essays arguing that the network should prepare for its post-quantum transition sooner rather than later.
While the essays broadly persuaded investors and institutions, many of Bitcoin's technical leaders dismissed them as alarmist — that is, until Google's quantum resource estimates were updated just a few months later.
Crediting Google's paper with "shifting the Overton Window" on quantum and strengthening the case for post-quantum preparation, Nic shares his thoughts on the delicate politics surrounding this transition — and how he believes a quantum attack and response could potentially play out in practice.
In more detail, this special episode of Bitcoin Rails X MARA Foundation TV covers:
- How a quantum attack could realistically unfold + the different ways stakeholder groups might respond
- The constitutional tensions surfaced by quantum vulnerable coins and how incentives will ultimately dictate outcomes
- How a state actor could facilitate "benevolent" quantum recovery and eliminate the need for a contentious fork - The role and influence of institutional investors as key players in quantum outcomes
- How Bitcoin's post-quantum transition could permanently reshape Bitcoin’s governance structures ...or build them from the ground up
