Yep. I use "curse words." My characters use curse words. If somebody never cusses, I usually assume that they are the parent of a young child, a religious person or a serial killer.

I do this every time I write. "What can I learn from the things I like? How can I take those elements and make them my own?"

When first constructing a story, the single most important question to ask yourself is: what kind of story is it? Is it a western? A romance? A science fiction epic? A little of all three? Then ask yourself: What favorite stories of mine is it most like? List examples.
What kind of sense does this make??
