30 + years ago I met my friend Alex a Ukrainian translator for stories I did on the fall of communism and freedom for Ukraine. We were full of optimism for the future. Today I cross into Ukraine amidst the darkness of war for a reunion and to see what’s ahead for his county.

Whispers of new war on the Korean Peninsula. If it happens it would dwarf any recent US conflict. More than 10 k dead in first hour. Joined a patrol along DMZ. Spooky place. The trip wire for Armageddon.

I am shocked, horrified and filled with an inconsolable sadness over the slaughter of so many in Israel. I pray for the Israeli people and for friends and colleagues bringing news of this massacre to the world. I wish I was with you.

What a day in TV Land! Perhaps a good time to convince CNN they need to hire back excellence.

I’ve been a fool! Working hard to uncover truth and report only fact got me where I am today, unemployed. Had I only shredded my self respect and blatantly lied I’d still be working and paid a crazy salary.nytimes.com/interactive/2023…

A true bow on a career. Friday I got on air one last time at CNN. Reported an arrest in the Dallas Zoo stolen monkeys case. Meaning my last story after 21 years was on monkey business!

I’m often asked what’s the most danger you’ve ever been in. I usually say driving GA 400 to get to work. That said, here are a few other close calls. *LANGUAGE WARNING*

Another parting shot… In 2011 I was on USS Ronald Reagan when it sailed thru the plume of the Fukushima nuke plant disaster. The entire exterior had to be decontaminated as well as every aircraft on deck. Sing it now, Working at the carrier wash, carrier washer…

Danger close. Most memorable embed. Operation Anaconda, Afghanistan. Holds record for highest altitude fight by US. I nearly froze to death and died of thirst in same 24 hours. In 2010 it was made into a major video game.

Dangerous beauty The Korean DMZ is a 155 mile No Man’s Land an unintended nature preserve home to more than 100 protected or endangered species. The only way to see them is by going on patrol.

Looking back at my time at CNN Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. The shame is it’s also one of the most dangerous. Me and my intrepid producer Sanjay Sethi.
