Surrey Police have mandatorily referred themselves to the IOPC for alleged “serious corruption”. This is in relation to allegedly tipping off the suspects in a criminal Misconduct in Public Office investigation into SEND officers at Surrey County Council. This follows my referral of Surrey Police to the IOPC regarding their decision to close two separate investigations into allegations of Misconduct in Public Office by Surrey County Council officers on the same day. One of the investigations also concerned an allegation of Perjury. The families involved have already endured an extremely difficult process. They need confidence that the police acted properly, that evidence was handled appropriately, and that the decision to close these investigations was made without improper influence.
