sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources
“a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre
but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time
you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment
somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”
"We've done tons of user tests on this, and it turns out it doesn't work. Touch surfaces don't want to be vertical. It gives great demo, but after a short period of time you start to fatigue, and after an extended period of time, your arm wants to fall off. It doesn't work. It's ergonomically terrible." - Steve Jobs on touch screen laptops 🤷♂️
Windows 8 was pushing touchscreen laptops in 2012, and parts of the tech press insisted touch didn’t belong on a PC... Can’t wait for the same idea to become “innovation” with an Apple logo 🥰
I think most “Day in the Life of a Software Engineer” videos are just showoff 😅
No-one go offices to eat, play and sleep there.
Honestly, most of the people including me have never even seen what nap room looks like bcz we go to work there not sleep 👩🏼🦱
An average engineer once sit at desk, it’s hours of focused work. You barely move except for lunch and washroom breaks.
Software engineering requires deep concentration. Constantly switching between things breaks your flow.
Maybe that’s why so many engineers prefer WFH. It’s not always about comfort, sometimes it’s about getting work done without distractions.
Luego luego suena a puesto súper inventado.
