it feels like hours, but it’s only minutes until the pointer finger on her left hand begins to move . ever so slowly, back and forth as if to test for movement . still no defining breaths . no big movements .

that smell is gone, sucked away by the ventilation . now, it just smells of nothing . that bullet hole is pulled closed by inner fibers of skin, nothing left behind but a small dot . barely visible to the naked eye . she hasn’t moved . hasn’t spoken . hasn’t breathed .

David just watches. Dropping the syringe and stepping back quickly. He doesn't want to be *right* next to her right now. He tries to pinch his nose so he doesn't have to smell it.

with new veins and arteries, new internal organ tissue, and new skin . now it’s just her with a bullet hole in her forehead . like she had been before . her skin now looks as it had the moment he shot her, if anything with a little more color than before .

David looks over to it and nods. He feels a lump in his throat as he takes a deep breath, hovering the needle over a part of her. He looks at her face apologetically. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. He wants to linger. To hesitate. But he didn't do that when he shot+

her, so why should he do it now? With that thought, he quickly jabs the needle into her cold, waxy flesh. He sinks it all the way in before beginning to press on the plunger and inject her. He slowly pulls it out when he's done, waiting with bated breath to see what happens.

we haven’t been able to visualize her organs in there, so there’s a chance she might not come back at all . . . but we’re holding out hope . “ that scientist remained beside him, as if trying to provide some kind of comfort . it must be hard for him to see .

it took several days, but that blood sample’s been separated . the lab’s technicians are working on synthesizing something from its ‘plasma’ . hopefully soon, there will be a cure .
