It’s made up of 15 elected SFU faculty and students, provincial appointees, and SFU admins. 3. But certain policies have already started to become under the jurisdiction of the University Secretary and General Counsel, which used to be two separate roles but presently is concentrated into one single role. This is a huge conflict of interest! (Note: University Secretary is the receiver of whistleblower complaints, but General Counsel represents the University legally to limit liability.) 1. There’s currently a proposal to change the Policy on University Policies and Procedures (B 10.00) to allow one, non-appointed SFU staff member, the University Secretary/General Counsel to change university policies on their own!
2. If this proposal to were to pass, the University Secretary would be able to:
a. “amend associated Procedures [within University policies] without Board approval”, and
b. “[give] General Counsel & University Secretary discretion to approve amendments to definitions”.
