Back then it was just me, alone in my studio. Every piece of Transformers box art was drawn and painted completely by hand. 🎨 ✏️ The drawing: I worked freehand from the actual toy prototypes. The drawing alone took about one week. ✂️ The hard edges: every crisp line came from frisket, cut by hand with an X-Acto blade. That's how you got those sharp, metallic edges. 🖌️ The paint: I airbrushed with Dr. Ph. Martin's dyes, and later on worked in acrylics too. 📐 The size: most paintings were about 30×20 inches, and each one took about one month to finish. How did I get the job? I started out as a car artist, painting shiny, reflective car art. My agent in Manhattan got me a lot of that work. When the toy company saw it, they knew it was the perfect fit for the Transformers: all that chrome and metal. That's how the Transformers came to me. I'm so glad everyone has enjoyed my artwork on the packaging.
