I spoke with Prime Minister @MarkJCarney. Thank you, Canada! I briefed him on the latest Russian strike on Kyiv and no advance warning from our partners about the ballistic missile launch. This is the second time Ukraine has received no warning this week.
A rescue operation is underway – the strike damaged a residential building, and the fire engulfed apartments on the first through eighth floors. All emergency services are on the scene, and residents are being evacuated. So far, one person has been reported killed and six injured. My condolences to their families and loved ones.
There was also a strike on the grounds of an energy facility – one of Kyiv’s main power plants. We are counting on our partners’ support.
We also discussed contacts with the United States and diplomatic developments that may take place this week. It is important that the world clearly supports an end to this war and real steps toward de-escalation – genuine steps that Russia will actually take to bring its war and its killings to an end.

A Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Once again, no early warning from our partners. The main target was energy infrastructure, specifically CHPP-4. Unfortunately, it was hit. A residential building was also damaged, and rescuers are currently putting out a fire there. Our systems detected these missiles only when they were already virtually on approach to Kyiv. CHPP-4 is one of Kyiv’s key energy facilities.
According to our intelligence, the Russians are preparing further ballistic missile launches. The facts show that the Russians do not consider themselves bound by what the President of the United States said. Ukraine supported an energy ceasefire. Russia is targeting yet another power plant and the lives of our people.
And this is absolutely unjust: when they are destroying our energy infrastructure, and Ukraine is not even receiving early warnings about ballistic missile launches. It is important that the world does not stay silent about this. And it is important that the United States really see what is happening and who is responsible for this war continuing.
Please stay safe tonight and tomorrow. We are working to replenish our air defenses with anti-ballistic missiles.

It was great to see officers and ratings being equipped with the skills they need to lead, fight and win.

Apparently Russian servers have been hit by a Ukrainian strike and immediately massive online hard right chatter has collapsed.
This particular chatter was in support of Germany’s AFD, their equivalent to Reform, but similar patterns are being seen in hard right movements everywhere, including the UK.
If anyone needed anymore evidence that Russia are driving a massive wave of hard right propaganda in Europe, this is it.
So, all you “patriots” - you’ve been duped by Russia, and you are about as far from patriotic as anyone can be. You are easily brainwashed though. This is how propaganda works.

This is absolutely the right approach by Winchester College. At school and university, access to all devices needs to be rationed if young people are to learn to read, think, calculate and write. HMS Dauntless conducted PASSEX with the five Ukrainian minehunters in the Solent on Saturday as the MCMVs finished a week of intensive training off the South Coast.
UNS Henichesk, Mariupol, Melitopol, Chernihiv and Cherkasy practised gunnery, minehunting and close formation manoeuvres during Exercise Lion Protector, part of the Joint Expeditionary Force’s wider effort to protect northern European sea lanes and critical maritime infrastructure.
The Ukrainian crews also used their Seafox ROVs to locate and destroy dummy mines, with Chernihiv and Cherkasy conducting live firings.
HMS Dauntless is preparing to escort HMS Prince of Wales when the FIRECREST 2026 deployment to the High North resumes later this year with NATO allies.

Just come across this mosaic view of Gaza in the Church of St Stephen, Um ar-Rasas, Jordan. It was constructed in 756CE by the mosaics artists Stauranchius & Euremius, 120 years AFTER the Islamic conquests. The people were still using Greek, still building churches (there are 16 in Um ar-Rasas alone). This is important evidence the continuities of population in this region, masked by changes of language and religion. The idea that the Arabs swept in and kicked out or forcibly converted the population of Palestine is unhistorical nonsense: the population of Palestine was majority Christian until the time of the Crusades. They took two hundred years to use Arabic as their main language. Six hundred to convert to Islam.

Oct 11, 1797. A British fleet that had been in open mutiny just months earlier destroys the Dutch navy.
In the spring of 1797 the Royal Navy came close to falling apart. Sailors who hadn't been paid in months rose up in two huge mutinies at Spithead and the Nore. Ships flew red flags and refused to sail.
Meanwhile, the Dutch fleet, now allied with Revolutionary France, sat at Texel across the North Sea, ready to support an invasion of Britain or Ireland.
Admiral Adam Duncan, a 6-foot-4 Scot, was supposed to be blockading them. During the mutiny almost his entire fleet abandoned him. At one point he was left with just two ships.
So he bluffed. He kept sending signals out to sea as if a big British fleet were waiting just over the horizon. The Dutch stayed in port.
By October the mutinies were over. When the Dutch fleet under Vice Admiral Jan de Winter finally came out, Duncan raced to catch them.
He found them on Oct 11 off the Dutch coast near the village of Camperduin.
De Winter tried to lure him into shallow water. Duncan didn't wait to form a neat battle line. He split his fleet in two and charged straight through the Dutch line, the same kind of attack Nelson made famous at Trafalgar eight years later.
It turned into a slugging match at point blank range. The Dutch fought ferociously.
By mid afternoon De Winter's flagship had been dismasted and he was the only officer still standing on her upper deck. He surrendered.
Duncan captured eleven Dutch ships, including nine ships of the line. He didn't lose a single one.
Casualties were brutal on both sides. More than 200 British dead and hundreds more wounded. On the Dutch side, around 540 dead.
De Winter, who was also enormous, later joked that it was a miracle two men as big as he and Duncan had both made it through the slaughter.
The Dutch navy never recovered.
And the King's reward? At Duncan's request, he pardoned 180 sailors who'd been condemned for taking part in the Nore mutiny.
