🇰🇪 Kenya is undertaking an @APRMorg
@APRM_MarieRoseAPRM Targeted Review focused on Youth Issues.
Attention #GenZ - this is your moment to be heard. From the streets to policy round tables.
The African Peer Review Mechanism is a process through which African countries assess governance, development and accountability. This Targeted Review creates an opportunity to examine the issues affecting young people and, importantly, to bring young people’s lived experiences, priorities and ideas into the conversation.
Why does this matter?
Because decisions about jobs and economic opportunities, education, digital spaces, participation in public affairs, inclusion, leadership and the future of Kenya directly affect the country’s young population.
This should not be a conversation about young people without young people.
🇰🇪 #GenZKenya: What are the issues that policymakers need to hear from you? What should change? What solutions do you want to see?
Your voice, experience and ideas matter in shaping the conversation about Kenya’s future.
Pay attention. Participate. Be heard.

Spent International Day of Democracy at the University of Nairobi, talking about how ready Kenya is for democracy and how well we understand it.
Thanks to WFD and UoN Political Science, and to NIMD for equipping me as a WYDE alumnus.

Legal and policy reform is where most youth inclusion conversations begin and, too often, end. A quota is announced. A policy is adopted. A press release goes out. Implementation stalls

👏👏
It's been 16 years since Kenya adopted its Constitution and the question that matters most isn't how far we've come, but who's actually feeling the benefit.
That's the question Hon. Chief Justice (Rtd.) Dr. Willy Mutunga put to young people at a recent ELF-Africa dialogue on youth power, constitutionalism and Kenya's democratic future. He was clear: the 2010 Constitution is genuinely transformative devolution, expanded rights, public interest litigation, stronger accountability mechanisms. But a progressive document on paper isn't the same as a lived reality for every citizen.
We were represented at the dialogue by our Director, Nancy Muigei on the panel, alongside our Program Coordinator and Faculty Liaison a reminder that this conversation matters at every level of our work.
That distinction matters for young people especially. A right you don't understand can't be exercised. A freedom you don't use can quietly erode. Accountability doesn't happen automatically it happens when citizens show up and demand it.
So what does that look like in practice?
👋Register and vote
👋Know your rights, not just in theory
👋Engage your county government directly
👋Hold leadership accountable
👋Protect civic space and freedom of association
👋Show up in public decision-making spaces
👋Pass the knowledge on
Katiba Day isn't just a date to mark it's a reminder that constitutions are only as strong as the citizens willing to use them.

Africa Peer Review Mechanism will officially launch the AFRICA CREDIT RATING AGENCY (AfCRA ) in Port Louis , Mauritius 🇲🇺 on 7 October 2026.
WHY AFRICAN CREDIT RATING AGENCY MATTERS NOW 📌
African Union @_AfricanUnion Member States continue to face disproportionately high borrowing costs, constraining governments’ ability to finance infrastructure, jobs and essential public services. Thus the establishment of AfCRA is therefore bold, timely and strategic.
1. Reduce Africa’s High Cost of Capital
African countries frequently borrow at significantly higher interest rates than comparable economies elsewhere. More accurate and context-sensitive assessments of African risk can help address the perceived 'Africa risk premium' , potentially saving billions in debt-servicing costs and freeing resources for development.
2. Provide a More Balanced Assessment of African Risk
Existing global rating methodologies such as S&P Global Ratings, Moody's and Fitch Ratings have been criticised for not sufficiently accounting for Africa’s economic structures, informal economies, domestic financing capacity and institutional reforms. AfCRA can provide an additional, independent African perspective based on deeper understanding of local contexts
3. Expand Access to Capital Markets
Many African sovereigns, municipalities and companies remain unrated or underserved by the international ratings industry. AfCRA can help close this gap, enabling more African entities to establish credible risk profiles and potentially access domestic and international capital for infrastructure and development.
4. Strengthen Financial Sovereignty and African Capital Markets
Africa cannot achieve Agenda 2063 while remaining excessively dependent on external institutions to assess its creditworthiness. AfCRA can strengthen African financial architecture, deepen local-currency capital markets and complement institutions such as Afreximbank, the African Development Bank and the emerging continental financial architecture.
5. Improve Governance, Transparency and Investor Confidence
AfCRA’s credibility will ultimately depend on its independence, transparency and technical rigour. Its establishment can incentivise governments to improve economic data, debt transparency, fiscal governance and institutional performance. A credible African rating institution can strengthen investor confidence while giving African countries greater ownership of their economic narrative.
In sum the establishment of AfCRA is not about giving Africa favourable ratings. It is about ensuring Africa is rated fairly, credibly and with a deeper understanding of its economic realities.
Bravo! @APRM_MarieRose for the visionary leadership & the entire team.
Congratulations 🎊 to the people of Africa for this important milestone 📌

The AU Youth Charter 2006 which is under review by young persons& UNSCR 2250 made the promises. The Youth, Peace & Security Roadmap is the practical framework delivering them across East Africa. The promises have been made. This is the receipt.

Post 5: Agenda 2063 is Africa's own blueprint. Aspiration 3 calls for good governance and democracy. Aspiration six demands that women and youth be central architects of Africa's transformation not just beneficiaries. The Roadmap does not reference these aspirations for decoration
Post 4
A roadmap without phases is a mood board.Phase 1 in 2026 lays the governance structures and baselinesPhase 2 in 2027-2028 accelerates the advocacy and builds the cross-border networks.Phase 3 in 2029 2030 locks in the gains and transfers ownership to national institutions
Happy international youth week !
Post 3: The Roadmap is built around a vision that sounds simple and is actually radical: a safe, inclusive, democratic East Africa where young people actively lead. Not participate. Not advise. Lead. Seven strategic goals back that vision

8/10 Kenyans are under 35. 7/10 Ugandans are under 30. Yet under-30s hold just 2% of parliamentary seats worldwide.
The generation shaping every street, market, and conversation is missing from the rooms where decisions get made.
Not a youth problem. A structural one.
