The EPP Group is delivering on its promise to reverse the combustion engine ban. With support from a broad centrist majority, today’s votes support technological neutrality and give carmakers the freedom to innovate, while driving emissions down. "13.8 million quality jobs in Europe and around 7% of EU GDP depend on the automotive industry. With today’s vote, we took an important step to protect those jobs and to make sure that this industry continues to have a future in Europe. The deal is agreed and the EPP Group is keeping its word. Together with our partners, we have agreed to reverse the combustion engine ban. This gives the car industry the flexibility it needs to transform and businesses greater certainty to plan and invest. We have also secured important new incentives for green steel made in the EU. This agreement shows that Europe’s political centre can deliver," said Jens Gieseke MEP, the EPP Group’s spokesman on transport. Read more here:ow.ly/i6G0510009f

We deeply regret the ratification today by the Libyan Parliament of the so-called Libyan-Türkiye Memorandum of Understanding on the delimitation of maritime jurisdictions in the Mediterranean Sea. We recall that the EU’s position on this matter was clearly stated by the European Council in 2019 and remains unchanged. This agreement infringes upon the sovereign rights of third states, it does not comply with the Law of the Sea, and is null and void. We reaffirm our solidarity with Greece and Cyprus. We reiterate the EU's well known position against any outside interference in Libya.

I spoke with Marco Rubio @SecRubio, and it was a substantive conversation – focused on the issues that matter. I am grateful for his readiness to help and his clear position. First, ballistic missile interceptors, which are needed to protect lives. Second, early warning of Russian ballistic missile attacks, which is vital. Third, the situation with Starlink/Starshield, which needs to be restored. Of course, all of this comes against the backdrop of our diplomatic efforts to end this horrific war and the constant killing of people. We agreed to get in touch again soon for an update. Thank you, Marco, for the constructive discussion! Thank you to everyone in America who supports fair approaches!

A quale scopo? Investono somme enormi. Guardate quanto stanno investendo i Paesi scandinavi, la Svezia e tutti gli altri". Sobchak: "Quindi, secondo lei, scoppierà una guerra mondiale?". Vucic: "Sarà un miracolo se non scoppierà. Sarei l’uomo più felice del mondo se mi sbagliassi. Ma temo di non sbagliarmi".

Arrived in Norway with my team. Important meetings are scheduled: a trilateral with Jonas Gahr Støre and Alex Stubb, a bilateral with Steve Witkoff, and a meeting of all four of us. I will also have an audience with King Haakon VIII of Norway and a meeting with the Storting. We are maintaining all contacts that can help bring peace. We will also discuss strengthening our air defense and joint production. I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine and a dignified path to peace.

A milestone day for the European Union’s relations with Andorra and San Marino! 🇪🇺🇦🇩🇸🇲 Today’s signing of the Association Agreement between the European Union, Andorra and San Marino in Brussels marks a major achievement and the beginning of a new chapter of cooperation with close, like-minded partners who share our European values and ambitions. Congratulations to Andorra’s Head of Government @XavierEspot and San Marino’s Foreign Minister Luca Beccari @AffariEsteriSMR on their dedicated work and this significant achievement. As the European Parliament’s rapporteur for this agreement, I am particularly pleased to see this important step towards even closer ties. Next step: the European Parliament’s consent. I look forward to continuing our work on a partnership that creates new opportunities for our citizens and economies!

🇪🇺🇦🇩🇸🇲 A landmark day for the EU, Andorra and San Marino. By signing the Association Agreement, we open a new chapter of deeper cooperation, with real benefits for people. Not simply an agreement for today. An investment in the decades ahead. 👉📝 ec.europa.eu/commission/pres….

A historic day. After more than 12 years of negotiations, the 🇪🇺European Union, 🇸🇲San Marino and 🇦🇩Andorra signed today the most ambitious Association Agreement we have ever concluded so far. Two very close partners which deep historic, cultural, political and economic ties to the EU will now become part of our single market and many related policies. 👉 ec.europa.eu/commission/pres… In a world of increasing volatility, it is of key importance to stabilise, strengthen and deepen our relationships with those who share our values and interests and team up with the EU in multilateral organisations and international fora. As EU Ambassador accredited also to San Marino, I was proud and happy to attend the signing by @MarosSefcovic and @VDombrovskis in Brussels today together with my colleague @CKokkinakis, who is also EU Ambassador to Andorra. Many thanks to the experienced negotiation teams in @EU_Commission @ClaraMartinezAl and in @eudeleg_rome @VeronicaV_EU for having worked so hard with our great colleagues in San Marino and Andorra to make today’s signature possible. Now we need to move to efficient implementation in close partnership so that citizens and businesses will experience soon the concrete benefits of the Association Agreement.

The biggest, and stupidest, myth in European politics, particularly popular in France, is that Europe suffers the consequences of "austerity" and "neoliberalism". In the biggest 5 countries in Europe, more than half of the population makes its income from the state, less than half from the private sector. This is what makes the problem of reducing the welfare state so impossible: more than half of the voters are net recipients. No surprise that Italy's budget has not been balanced in 100 years, France's in 50 years (ooh la la, l'austérité!!): -France: 30 million from the state versus 21m private sector workers. State spending is 57% of GDP, taxes more than half the economy. The budget hasn't been balanced in the lifetime of most French (since 1974). - Germany: 35 million adults from the state, versus 34 million from the private sector. 10% of the population is registered as severely disabled. Public spending is over half of GDP. Germany has had a continuous budget deficit since 2019. -Italy: 23 million from the state, versus 20.5 million private-sector workers. Public spending is 51% of GDP. Italy has had a budget deficit every year since 1925, for 100 years. - Spain more people get their income from the state since 2024: 18.21 million from the public sector versus 17.9 million people working in the private sector. Since 2025, Spain also had more government employees than self-employed workers (autónomos) for the first time in history. State spending is at 45%, budget has not been balanced since 2007. - UK: 54% of households now receive more in state benefits than they pay in taxes. State spending is 44.5% of GDP, taxes (40%) are at their highest since 1950, the budget hasn't been balanced since 2001, and 1 in 5 new cars is paid by the government through a bizarre state disability scheme (Motability).

BREAKING | 🇪🇬🇸🇦🇾🇪‼️‼️ Egypt could be drawn into a wider regional war as President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi seeks parliamentary authorization for a potential military operation to defend Saudi Arabia amid escalating Houthi missile and drone attacks. On October 17, el-Sisi said Egypt was prepared to take all necessary measures to protect Saudi security if Riyadh formally requested military assistance, while stressing that Cairo had no intention of launching aggression against another country. Parliament is scheduled to hold an emergency session on October 18 at 1:00 p.m. local time to consider granting him military authorization. The move comes amid attacks on Saudi airports, oil facilities, and other infrastructure. Egypt previously joined the Saudi-led coalition against the Houthis in 2015. No final intervention decision or official Saudi request has been announced. Egyptian military involvement could significantly expand the confrontation beyond Yemen, potentially bringing another major regional military into operations against the Houthis. Cairo’s participation could reinforce Saudi defenses and increase pressure on Houthi forces, but it would also risk widening the conflict. Parliamentary authorization would provide a legal basis for possible action, not confirmation that Egyptian forces are preparing to enter combat. See the latest updates with us: @visionergeo

Food must never become a weapon. This is why on today’s #WorldFoodDay, the 🇪🇺European Union, together with many partners from all regions, will host a side-event at 12:30 hours at the 🇺🇳UN’s @FAO in Rome on the impact of the current escalation in the Black Sea on global food security. This crisis comes on top of other drivers of food insecurity, notably the ongoing severe disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the effects of El Niño. Food security is a global public good. We therefore look forward to hearing from leading experts of @FAO, @WFP and @IFAD on what is already done to mitigate the food security effects of the Black See escalation and what more should be done. Efforts of the international community to restore freedom of navigation are and remain essential.

Russia is now attacking civilian vessels that have nothing to do with Ukraine in NATO waters. They know that Bulgaria has a pro-Russian government and that Romania is in political turmoil, and they believe there will be zero pushback. What is this if not war?

BIG | 🇺🇸🇺🇦‼️‼️ Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has threatened to cut funding to federal agencies involved in restricting Ukraine’s military satellite communications, warning that Congress will take action if American authorities are found responsible. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Fitzpatrick said federal agencies implicated in limiting Ukraine’s military Starlink access could face funding consequences if their involvement is established. “If we leave Ukraine in the dark, there will be consequences. Mark my words. Agencies will not receive funding if they do not do their jobs,” he warned, signaling his willingness to use congressional budgetary powers to challenge such restrictions. Fitzpatrick’s warning highlights potential resistance within the Republican Party to measures that could undermine Ukraine’s military capabilities. Congressional pressure could become a significant obstacle to further communications restrictions, particularly given Ukraine’s dependence on satellite connectivity for battlefield coordination and drone operations against Russian forces. BIG | 🇺🇸🇺🇦‼️‼️ Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico has called for stronger support for Ukraine and NATO, arguing that stopping Vladimir Putin’s aggression in Ukraine could prevent the United States from facing a much more costly confrontation in the future. Talarico emphasized that strengthening Ukraine and America’s NATO allies is essential because they are confronting Russian aggression before it can threaten other countries. He described continued assistance as a form of cost-saving investment, arguing that stopping Putin in Ukraine would reduce the need to confront further Russian aggression elsewhere. His argument frames support for Ukraine not only as a matter of European security but also as a long-term American strategic interest. By helping Ukraine resist Russia’s invasion, Washington could strengthen deterrence, reduce the risk of a wider confrontation involving NATO and potentially avoid significantly greater military and economic costs in the future. For too long, Communist Cuba has been allowed to operate as an outpost for malign actors and terror groups – including the Islamic Republic of Iran, the world’s number one state sponsor of terrorism – to target the United States. Today, I designated BICSA, a Cuban financial institution which has been providing financial services to sanctioned Iranian entities. Let me be absolutely clear: the Trump Administration will not tolerate a rogue state hosting hostile foreign military, intelligence and terror operations less than a hundred miles from our homeland. state.gov/releases/office-of…
