There's much debate about what carvings in St. Osric at Ludton represent. One particular pew end is contentious. Some claim it's a dragon, others a winged-hare. While both are known to have frequented the county, the confusion might just be down to the carver's hands.

I am a salt-hag. I am a witch of sea-shaken places. The rocks I stand upon are bullied by tides, givers or takers of life upon the moods of waves. My coast teaches better than books both the cruelty of chaos and its beautiful power to transform. – #EmilyCBanting #Witchcraft

Hookland County Council now calls them 'Restricted Byways'. We call them by their old names: corpse roads; coffin paths; lych lines; wraith ways. I reckon that's what the dead still call them as well – whatever bloody signs HCC put up. – Jimmy Waterhouse #VOH

As it is #Martinmas, how could I not remind you that the @lunatraktors wonderful rendition of the traditional Hookland song 'St. Martin's Land' exists. Refuse those who warn you it is a summoning. youtube.com/watch?v=reT0pIp0…

The fox has scavenged the camps of humanity since its first fires. I doubt Fox Bridge idea is as old as that, but I won’t dismiss it. There’s something ancient in the idea of the fox as spirit messenger, of the witch having the power to turn into one as desired. - #EmilyCBanting

We can certainly chart seasonal shifts in graffiti. When autumn comes, so does an increase in spraycan-spat ghosts and fox brides – apposite for All Hallows' Eve and its focus on witchcraft. – Sophie Morley of Woden College's Graffiti Research and Formalisation Team (GRAFT), 1981

The witch has feral temples. Enfoldings by wooden bone and blood-tithe thorn. Deep wood places of prayer, sites green communion. These are her first schools of awe and wonder. These are where her secret teachers can be encountered. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #WitchWednesday

Across the county, you find carvings of owls an owl-beasts in its ancient churches. Some say they are servants of the Queen of Owls. Wooden eyes spying in the houses of a rival deity. Others have it that they were placed to remind us there are other paths to wisdom. – Dr. M. Benn

The witch's way through the woods will always favour fox paths. It will always be walked with her wyrdrenc sack open to gather ingredients for future magics. The witch's way through the woods can only ever be one of wonder. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #WitchWednesday
