The rule of law is weakening, and women and girls are paying the price.
Around the world, conflict, repression, and backlash are weakening the systems meant to protect people.
Let's push for justice that delivers: in law, in systems, and in real life #ForAllWomenAndGirls.

If women keep being systematically excluded from power, the world will fall short of its full potential.
As world leaders gather at the 81st session of the @UN General Assembly, our message is clear:
We want equal power #ForAllWomenAndGirls!

Violence against women & girls is a persistent & pervasive global scourge.
Ending this crisis is essential for sustainable development & human rights.
Let’s invest in women’s organizations delivering proven, locally led solutions & build a world of safety & dignity for everyone.
What does conflict mean across a lifetime?
For women and girls in #Lebanon, it can mean displacement, lost childhoods, and memories of war.
@unwomenlebanon spoke with three generations of Lebanese women to hear about their experiences and hopes.

I've just returned from Syria, Jordan & Cyprus.
Throughout my visits & in my ongoing outreach with leaders one message is impossible to ignore:
The region - and the world - cannot afford more war.
The fighting must stop on all fronts.
Diplomacy must prevail.

During my visit to Cyprus, I heard from many Cypriots. Their message was clear: they want a future defined by cooperation, opportunity & peace.
The @UN remains fully committed to supporting a process towards a settlement of the Cyprus issue based on dialogue, respect & good faith.

Decisions concerning Lebanon’s national security and foreign policy are to be taken in Beirut, and in Beirut alone, free from any external agendas or calculations.

#VisitaPastorale #Lampedusa

Those who have lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea are victims both of decisions that were made and of decisions that were not made. Indifference to the common good and corruption in their countries of origin; a global economic system that generates poverty and exclusion; fear that fuels prejudice and contempt; the belief that such problems do not concern us; the criminal calculations of those who profit from the suffering of others; the slow and difficult transition from mere emergency management to the development of comprehensive and shared policies. #PastoralVisit #Lampedusa

#Lebanon: Women & girls are devastated by conflict, which now faces among the highest rates of displacement in the world.
“There are now 1.4 million displaced people in Lebanon, which is well over 20% of the population.” - Anandita Philipose, @UNFPA's Representative in Lebanon

I strongly condemn today's Israeli strikes on Beirut. The strikes took place despite the ceasefire & at a time when the US & Iran are expected to reach an agreement that will pave the way to a peaceful resolution of this conflict.
This conflict is having a devastating impact on the world's economy.
I urge all parties to show maximum restraint at this crucial moment & I strongly hope for a successful outcome of the ongoing efforts by the US & Iran.

I'm deeply alarmed by the renewed escalation in the Middle East.
All attacks must stop immediately.
The ceasefires in Lebanon, Iran & Gaza must be fully respected.
Any steps that could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts must be avoided.
I'm also deeply concerned by Israel's decision to close crossings into Gaza & reiterate my call for the immediate reopening of all crossings to ensure the rapid, safe & unhindered passage of humanitarian assistance at scale throughout Gaza.
The exercise of navigational rights & freedoms, in accordance with international law, must be respected.
Everyone must uphold their obligations under international law & take all feasible precautions to protect civilians.
There is no military solution to the conflicts in the Middle East.
The only way forward is through dialogue & negotiations.
I urge all concerned to work towards diplomatic solutions that advance regional & international peace & security.

It's because of war.
It's because of violence.
It's because of persecution.
It’s a heartbreaking decision that 41.6 million people have made to flee across borders to find safety.

I welcome the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel & Lebanon.
The @UN supports all efforts to end the hostilities & alleviate the suffering of communities on both sides of the Blue Line.
I urge all actors to fully respect the cessation of hostilities, cease any further attacks & to comply with their obligations under international law.
