Bachir said : “If the Vatican wants a Maronite president to conduct an experiment in coexistence between Islam and Christianity, and we are once again expected to pay the price for it, as Muslims and Christians, with 100,000 lives lost, then let them appoint a pope of their own and conduct as many experiments as they wish. We will not accept such a president.”

When the Israeli army entered the Chouf in June 1982, some of its soldiers and officers were themselves Druze. This was notably the case of Lieutenant Colonel Ismail Kabalan, an Israeli Druze originally from Hasbaya. Israeli Druze soldiers maintained religious and sometimes familial ties with their Lebanese coreligionists. Indeed, some did not hesitate to openly display their solidarity with the Druze of the Chouf, going so far as to show a troubling degree of leniency toward Druze forces affiliated with Walid Jumblatt, despite his political hostility toward Israel.

Father Tony Khadra: Achrafieh Will No Longer Belong to Christians In an episode of “Bi Arda" program on Pen Media, Head of Labora Foundation Father Tony Khadra revealed that “a vast number of properties in Achrafieh have recently been sold to non-Christians.” “Achrafieh will no longer belong to Christians or its original residents,” he said. Worse still, he added, “MPs, party leaders and bishops refuse to speak out because they don’t want to lose non-Christian votes in their districts.” Watch the full episode tomorrow, Friday, on Pen Media’s YouTube channel, featuring Father Tony Khadra and University Lecturer Dr. Marc Abou Abdallah. @ToniKhadra61 @MarcAbouAb1579 @RikardoChidiac

Lebanon government keeps increasing taxes to increase the size of government while we should “cut taxes on any occasion, for any reason, in any way that’s politically feasible, as the only way to keep down the size of government”

Today marks the anniversary of the Tayyouneh clashes of 14 October 2021 between Hezbollah, Amal, and the Lebanese Forces, when Hezbollah and Amal supporters attempted to enter Ain el-Remmaneh and the local residents were compelled to defend themselves.

1. The thesis that Syriac was never a spoken language is factually erroneous and an invention of Salibi/Trabulsi/Hourani in an attempt to deconstruct the history of the levant 2. Mount lebanon will anyway be federal if with the druse 3. Those Christians who “don’t fit” can freely join the other cantons/countries (which are obviously either Shia or Sunni) if the maronites are not to their taste. Our country will not be a supermarket. If you don’t like it, you leave it. We Maronites simply cannot harbor “toute la misère du monde” comme disait Mitterand meaning, in this context, “all Levantine Christians that despise us”. It will be either “chez les Maronites” or “chez les sunnites”. You choose. Freely.
If the aim is to promote a narrower national identity centred on Mount Lebanon, Syriac is a poor rallying point. The Druze, one of Mount Lebanon’s founding communities, do not identify with it. That is precisely the point Makram Rabah made in the post your own seems to be responding to. Melkite Catholics, Greek Orthodox and Armenians do not identify with a Syriac identity either; together, they make up nearly half of Lebanon’s Christian population. In any case, Syriac was never the spoken language of Lebanon, nor even the Maronites’ vernacular. Spoken in Edessa, it became a liturgical language among the Maronites. In Lebanon, before the Arab invasion, including among the Maronites, people spoke Western Aramaic, Greek or Canaanite languages, including Phoenician, depending on the period and location. The left and Soros have nothing to do with this. This is a matter of historical truth and political viability. Even a narrower national identity — up to the vision of a “Little Lebanon” — must be grounded in history and reality, not in fanciful narratives.

Pope Saint Pius V was quite fond of the death penalty. The crimes of adultery, heresy, and unnatural vice were punishable by execution during his reign of the Papal States. As Grand Inquisitor, he "accompanied" thousands of Waldensian Protestants to the gallows.
