⚡️ NEWS! ⚡️
1,000+ scientists and medical professionals call on MPs to listen to the science—back the #CANBill—and secure a liveable future.
The time for stronger, science-led legislation to tackle the climate-nature crisis is now.
This term, this session, this Parliament. 🧵
I’m proud to be one of 1,176 letter co-signatories calling on MPs to back the #CANBill in this week’s private members’ bill ballot. The time for science-led legislation to tackle the climate and nature crises is now

Beware plastic netting in lawn and wildflower turf - advice for anyone starting a new lawn area, shop around and insist on rolls that don't use plastic mesh in them, it is a total nightmare longterm! Also pollutes soil. Pls spread the word... jackwallington.com/beware-pl…

If you’re doing #nomowmay my recommendation is to do it in areas you can leave long all summer, not just leave for one month and then cut it because this leads to problems with the density of the lawn and also will just kill lots of wildlife using the longer grass come June.

True for trees established from seed, and maybe for trees produced with negligible fossil-inputs (then grown to maturity).
For real progress on climate and sustainability, we must acknowledge fossil-C is millions of times more stable #GreenHort #ClimateAction #TRUEzero

The fossil fuel industry’s involvement in carbon capture has raised the specter that the technology could be used to prolong oil and gas extraction, endangering the climate rather than helping protect it trib.al/zmlJgUT

It's a shame these things get "over-egged" - when the cake fails, we lose all.
Better gardeners and farmers minimise expensive inputs. Use the #powerofplants to increase soil C and health via plant roots.

📢Potential of soils to sequester carbon being "seriously overestimated" say researchers.

The message from Ecuador is clear: people will vote to keep oil in the ground | Jonathan Watts theguardian.com/commentisfre…
Just to be clear, in a time when the UK is granting international access to British oil reserves, and pro-oil media brand objection as “extremism”.
“Just Stop Oil is not calling for an immediate end to all UK oil and gas, but for a halt to granting new licences and consents”.
We've been asked to comment by press on Kier Starmer's piece in the Times this morning. Here is our comment, shared publicly:
We can only hope that if Keir Starmer becomes our next Prime Minister that he will have a better grasp of the detail he has at present. Just Stop Oil is not calling for an immediate end to all UK oil and gas, but for a halt to granting new licences and consents. This is the same policy that Labour has signed up to. However, Labour's failure to commit to revoking Rishi Sunak's planned 100 new oil and gas licences should they come to power, means that their pledge to end new oil and gas is meaningless. They are indistinguishable from the criminal Conservatives.
It is obvious that our politicians and corporations have no intention of acting in accordance with the fundamental interests of either our young people or the country as a whole. This means that civil resistance is no longer an option, it is a necessity. In late October, thousands of people will join Just Stop Oil in London to march on the roads, and we will not stop until we win.
