The average ATLA fan just wants every Avatar to have a repeat of Aang's character arcs while also not really remembering how it all went down.
Aang picked up firebending and waterbending almost immediately. He only stopped firebending when he hurt Katara being reckless.
The OG series it was made clear that the Avatar wasnt born with the knowledge to inherently bend, just the ability to. Meaning they had to still LEARN every element individually.
But since Korra now the Avatar is just a wizard with inherently knowledge of every element. Never needing actual masters to learn and a complete downgrade in terms of world building.
