I do bang on about fibromyalgia a lot.
After >20 years I feel i’m a veteran with experience and want to explain it to the outside world, largely to warn against complacency with regard to postviral consequences, esp Long Covid.
Someone with an MBA, trying to run the NHS like a business, but no knowledge of healthcare, thought deploying one “resource” was the same as another. Probably chalked it up as an “efficiency saving”.

1. A GP (senior doctor) urgently referred to hospital documenting suspected appendicitis
2. ANP (nurse practitioner) assessed child in A&E independently
3. They chose NOT to read the GP letter
4. Did not explain to parents that they were not a doctor

I know he shouldn’t have, but what i take away from this story is the extremely invasive and creepy way AI is being used to scour details of our lives. And UK is in bed with Palantir in doing this. Will not end well.

Did you all know that the cancer 2ww target has been abolished?

Sad state of affairs when the nurse doing my flu jab says "Wouldn't you rather just have covid than the covid jab?"
🤯🤦🏼♀️
No, no thank you. Look at the multisystem effects of covid, the impact on T cells, p53 suppression, cancer rates, long covid... I'd take the jab every time.

Ah, now it becomes clear how "virtual hospitals" will "treat" endometriosis.
CBT, self-compassion and pain meds optimisation.
University of Aberdeen awarded £2.4 million to lead national trial for endometriosis treatment
abdn.ac.uk/news/26202/
Oh good £2.4 million so gaslighting & not treating endometriosis patients can be evidence based.
Shame on you @aberdeenuni

ALT The 12‑week programme has been designed specifically for endometriosis symptoms and includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)‑informed psychotherapy, specialist physiotherapy, guidance on relationships, intimacy, communication, and self‑compassion and medication optimisation to reduce side effects.
Teen in a bad way with these symptoms today. (Nothing to do with paramedic, has seen gp since). Febrile, productive. Oossible rigour early am, i didn’t see.Suspect still rumbling infection. Has been a few months now. Going to ask for chest xray tomorrow, we’ll see if i’m humoured
Forgot to announce eldest left home to have an arm and a leg amputated. (University costing arm and leg). To be followed by further amputations in future years as debt continues to grow.
Is idealistically hoping to solve world problems with science.

There's a small window in life when your parents are healthy, your children are little, and everyone is happy and together. It feels like it will last forever, it won’t. Cherish every moment of it.

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

I left Google DeepMind in June. Jacob is right: many researchers believe they are building something that could kill everyone on the planet. It was literally my day job to think about how to stop that.
Replying to @hilbertspaess
The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible - but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
Teen has cough of 4+ weeks. Wheezy and no exercise tolerance at all without instant cough and breathlessness.
No history of asthma.
Asked for GP appt.
Being seen by their paramedic.
Does a paramedic have right skill focus to assess for non-acute wheeze?
Wheeze not settled. Went back after a week. Reception steered towards paramedic again. A lot to be said for continuity. But also 2nd appt needed, perhaps policy to escalate to doctor is wiser.
Must be something in the air. Came to say am missing my Dad. Difficult day. Gone just over 4 months.
Others also missing their fathers tonight too.
Sending some love out into the ether.
