Overall, dogs followed the pointing cues we gave them, but only slightly more than 50% of the time, and there was no difference in responses to the two pointing conditions. This contradicts other studies and suggests that dogs' point following has its limits (4/4)

455 #dogs were tested on 2 different types of pointing cues: 1) Ostensive pointing (incl. eye contact and dog-directed speech) and 2) Non-ostensive (no eye contact or dog-directed speech) (3/4)

This project was accomplished by a team of 74 researchers in 21 labs across 9 countries #teamworkmakesthedreamwork. Each group ran the exact same study protocol with their local dog population, testing dogs from all different breeds and training backgrounds (2/4)

Hi! I'm Jeff Stevens (@JeffStevensADML), a professor at @UNLPsych. I lead @UNL_CCHIL where I use biological & psychological approaches to understand dog behavior, to improve how people train, work with, & live w/dogs. I'm super excited to be a @ManyDogsProject co-director. 1/7

I also work on the Gifted Dogs Project, which is on a mission to unravel the secrets of word learning in dogs. Through rigorous research, we aim to shed light on how dogs comprehend and acquire language, and then tell the world what we find 🐶📚 #GiftedDogs 2/6

Was it easy? No. Editing so many writing styles and navigating differing opinions was a challenge. Was it worth it? Yes! Authors at all career stages came together to think about the state of the art in our field. Join us for our next project! tinyurl.com/56vj6jek 4/4

A team of trainees & faculty recently published a review of big team canine science. How? 1️⃣ A small team developed an outline 2️⃣ The full team divided into groups to write sections 3️⃣ A small team recommended revisions & edited a revised draft tinyurl.com/ycycyw87 2/4

How does #BigTeamScience handle writing papers? How can 20 people come together to produce a coherent paper, with each meeting authorship criteria? I’m Val Kuhlmeier (@Comp_Cog), a Professor @Queensu in 🇨🇦, and I’ll tell you about my experiences as a member of @ManyDogs. 1/4
