Eight years ago I was terminally diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in both lungs and lymph nodes. Drs Oladipo and Carser with oncology team at Belfast City Cancer Centre said hold my beer...today I was discharged, which is....nice
Yes, the opportunity cost. What the opportunity cost for Ádè might be different from what it is to Chįkè. But the point is: it exists. And it’s very significant and consequential.
Girls are more likely to pay for professional courses, access career opportunities, and be consistent members of profitable communities. As guys carry loads of responsibilities and keep paying for things that has little to do with them.
Look at the average guy and the average woman in corporate Lagos and you can tell that one looks *disproportionally* well off compared to the other.
Don’t get me wrong, I support and celebrate African women doing all that’s decent and necessary to attain more and more successes. But I also know that given their value system, and the state of things explained in this conversation, most of the women would never find a man. And this is okay to me even if it might not be to them.
I’m not going to tell women in general what to do to find competent men who’s ready to choose them. It’s not my problem. I can only have such conversations with specific women, most of whom I care about, where the need arises.

A government building a Primary Healthcare Centre has not necessarily built a healthcare service. What matters is whether there is a trained worker inside, electricity at night, clean water, functioning equipment and a reliable referral system when an emergency occurs.
The latest reports from several Nigerian communities are a reminder that development cannot be measured by the number of projects announced or buildings completed. Institutions earn public trust through functionality.
Citizens experience government not through budgets and speeches, but through whether a service works when they need it.
