Specs are here and they can do a lot → Create data reports, PRDs, generate hand-off context → Bring in outside context with an agent → Turn rough ideas into a detailed spec → Send it to a coding agent using Figma’s MCP server → Build a Code Layer on top and refine

There’s a familiar moment when a prototype starts coming together: “I’d actually use this.” And then - where does the data live? How do people log in? Who updates the content? Make now has a Payload backend, with CMS, database, media, APIs, auth, and more. Figma hosts it all.

One idea from Dylan’s opening keynote has stayed with me: building to think and building to ship. With code live on the canvas, it becomes another material to design with. Bring in a prototyping playground from GitHub, make changes, and open a PR all from the canvas.

When we announced Code Layers earlier this year, we wanted design and code to live side by side so you can collaborate with code directly on the Figma canvas. Excited to share it's now rolling out in open beta!

Here's how the mobile team has started pitching features internally at @figma courtesy of cinematographer @ohnonoahrowlett Instantly preview all of your code layers riffs to refine down touch, swipe, and other complex interaction gestures that you want to nail down the details on!
Some behind the scenes details... we tried getting an overhead camera setup working to show off code layers and specs on mobile, but we had to scrap the overhead at the last minute. Figma mobile team is absolutely crushing it... !

Introducing Specs! A new medium for markdown on the Figma canvas. You can think of Specs as a container for your context. Use MCP, Github, etc to move context in/out of Figma and across the Figma platform. Specs is rolling out in open beta over the next few weeks!

@figma's MCP server keeps getting better. You can now pull the raw code being used for all the shader effects in canvas, via the MCP server. Here's a quick little demo of me implementing a CRT shader effect on an existing app. Figma also comes with maaany shaders out of the box!
