La posibilidad de manifestarse libremente en Chile no da derecho a agredir ni a violentar a quien piensa distinto. Los cobardes ataques físicos a estudiantes de la UC (que incluyó a estudiantes mujeres) que estaban manifestando una posición distinta a la de los encapuchados son absolutamente inaceptables.

Sienta un precedente para que otros jefes de estado la reciban de igual a igual, como si fuera una presidenta democrática. Que ironia: Mientras Trump la recibía sonriente en Nueva York, no dejaban regresar a su Venezuela a María Corina Machado, la líder del movimiento opositor que ganó las elecciones del 2024. Lamento el fallecimiento de Camilo Escalona. Lo conocí como diputado. Estuvimos en veredas políticas opuestas. Reconozco en él a alguien que ejerció su liderazgo de manera clara y directa. Dedicó su vida a defender sus convicciones y las sirvió desde las instituciones de la nación ejerciendo como diputado, senador y Presidente del Senado.
Chile lo despide con respeto. Mis condolencias a su familia y al Partido Socialista.

It was a privilege to join the launch at the Hall of the Americas at OAS Headquarters of a book bringing together 50 global voices reflecting on the life and legacy of former Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, a leader whose influence extended across our hemisphere and beyond.
President Piñera believed deeply that democracy must deliver tangible results for citizens through strong institutions, economic opportunity and social progress. His willingness to build bridges and engage respectfully with those who held different views remains a powerful example for today’s leaders. I agree with those visions.
It is fitting that his portrait hangs at OAS Headquarters as a lasting tribute to a husband, father and statesman whose commitment to democracy and public service will continue to inspire our region. I am also therefore very appreciative that Piñera's widow, Cecilia Morel, and their daughters Magdalena and Cecilia were in attendance.

The #OAS was honored to host the launch of the book “Sebastián Piñera Echenique en 50 voces globales” at the House of the Americas, with the Permanent Representative of @ChileOEA, José Miguel Castro; Chile’s Ambassador to the United States, Andrés Ergas-Heymann; the widow of President Piñera and former First Lady of Chile, María Cecilia Morel Montes @ceciliamorel, and their daughters Magdalena and Cecilia; and former President of Ecuador Jamil Mahuad.
The event honored President Piñera’s legacy as a statesman who built bridges with political leaders across ideological lines, staunchly defended democracy, and remained committed to serving the peoples of the Americas, principles fully aligned with those of the OAS.
