"I survived. One day, Dad turned the TV dial to the Christian channel and broke the dial off the TV. I couldn't watch ThunderCats anymore. But everyone agreed that God kept me alive because He had a plan for me." delanceyplace.com/view-archi…

The @robertearlkeen album Picnic came out in 1997.
But his car burnt up at Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic in 1974. 47 years ago today ...
He tells the story to John Spong (@sponglr) of @TexasMonthly here:

This is fine by me, Billy.
It’s how rock and roll works. You take the broken pieces of another thrill and make a brand new toy. That’s what I did. #subterreaneanhomesickblues #toomuchmonkeybusiness
Well, @TheDecemberists were quite good yesterday at #TellurideBluegrassFestival. Their first post-COVID live show, their first in-person acoustic show ever ... it was an amazing late afternoon show, ranking as one of the best non-bluegrass shows in Festival history.

I can report that live music/festivals are back AND that every artist who performs at #TellurideBluegrassFestival is commenting about how long it's been and how good it is to be doing this again. Those attending like hearing it each time. Good work, @planetbluegrass!
Canola Fields, new music from @JamesMcMurtry
So glad to get to hear this, it's been a while since we had some new stuff. Album on its way.

Listening to Shannon @McNally with @BuddyandJim on @SXMOutlaw. They’ve had some great shows over the years, but damn. This was top shelf. And that #waylonjennings record is WOW. Having a woman sing those songs (with that band) honors him AND makes them brand new. Bravo!

Thanks for this, made my Monday. Grinning my ass off as he sort of sang, big smile when you guys kicked in, and chills at the end.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSANNE AND BOB!

Summer edition of @nodepression is FULL of stuff. Every page, something jumps right out at you. One of the best editions yet, and there have been some good ones.
Example: @CharlieDonovan's great piece on Maxayn Lewis, the voice of Ma Rainey, has a @brucehornsby mention.

Don't forget that @Spotify's guy is trying to buy Arsenal with all the loot taken from artists.
It's a Golden Rule situation. The ones with the gold makes the rules.
Uber avoided taxes on $6B in revenue by setting up 50 shell companies in the Netherlands.
Don't believe it for a second when these corporations claim they can't afford to pay workers a living wage.

Might want to take a look at the FCC Emergency Broadband Benefit if you lost income due to job loss or furlough since February 29, 2020 and your household had a total income in 2020 at or below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers. fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit

If you haven't read this essay by Bruce Robison, you should.
My favorite part: "It's GATOR. There IS no Rooster."
Apologies to the non-Mississippians for the commentary about medical marijuana and initiative. But that made us think of Willie, and what he would do, and Bruce.
To take your mind off of LOSING MEDICAL MARIJUANA AND THE RIGHT TO INITIATIVE OVER A MATH PROBLEM (and that's what happened), read this great piece by @brucerobison on Willie Nelson. Bruce wrote "What Would Willie Do."
And he's real tall. And talented.

Salary cuts, health insurance, retirement plans ... who knew someone like @robertearlkeen had to deal with such? You just go out and play music, right? Wrong.
Great @Forbes article on REK in the time of COVID.
