mitos terbesar kerja remote:
harus jago speaking cas-cis-cus kayak native. padahal realitanya, 90% komunikasi itu async & text-based.
lo gak perlu aksen british.
lo cuma butuh written communication yang concise & actionable.
habis bedah materi workshop "English 101" dari @MancerWork, ini framework komunikasi internal biar lo kelihatan pro di mata klien global. 🧵👇
kenapa ini krusial?
di remote work, teks yang ambigu = blocker. kalau chat lo muter-muter, project delay. kalau chat lo clear, lo dianggap reliable.
ini 5 pilar "internal messaging" buat upgrade karir lo:
1. clarity > politeness 🎯
stop basa-basi "i hope this email finds you well". tim luar (terutama US/EU) lebih hargain waktu daripada formalitas.
❌ junior: "hey sorry ganggu, boleh tolong cek file ini gak kalau sempet? agak urgent hehe."
✅ senior: "Hi team, please review the attached Q4 Report. Focus on rows 15-20 (budget overruns). Need approval by EOD today. Thanks."
rule: tanya diri lo, "apa goal pesan ini?" sampaikan dalam max 3 kalimat.
2. know your audience (context is king) 🧠
sesuaikan bahasa lo sama siapa lo ngomong.
• ke sesama dev: "API endpoint /auth is throwing 500 error. checking logs now." (langsung teknis).
• ke PM/non-tech: "User login is down. We found the issue and are fixing it. ETA 1 hour." (kasih dampak & estimasi).
jangan kasih jargon teknis ke orang finance. itu komunikasi buruk.
3. action oriented (the CTA) ⚡
jangan cuma kasih info, kasih perintah jelas. who, what, when.
❌ "desainnya udah oke." (ambigu).
✅ "Love the design! @John, please implement in Figma by Friday. @Sarah, can you approve the colors by tomorrow?"
selalu akhiri pesan dengan next steps. ini ciri-ciri leader.
4. timezone empathy (async rule) ⏰
kerja sama tim global berarti beda jam tidur. pesan lo harus standalone (lengkap tanpa perlu lo online buat jelasin).
selalu convert waktu:
❌ "Meeting jam 7 malem ya." (jam siapa?)
✅ "Sync at 7 PM WIB (8 AM EST). See you!"
pro tip: pake tools kayak worldtimebuddy atau command /time di slack.
5. efficiency: bullet points are friends 📝
hindari "wall of text". orang males bacanya. pakai format bullet points buat update status.
contoh daily standup async:
• progress: feature A 80% done.
• blocker: API rate limit hit.
• next: renew API key by 5 PM UTC.
bonus: tech stack buat nulis
gue gak nulis raw. gue pake tools:
• grammarly: buat grammar check (wajib).
• hemingway app: biar kalimat gak kepanjangan.
• deepl: buat nuansa bahasa yang lebih natural (bukan kaku ala gtranslate).
closing thoughts
skill bahasa inggris buat kerja remote itu bukan soal "poetry", tapi soal "efficiency". praktekin ini 1-2 bulan, gue jamin visibility lo di tim bakal naik drastis.
