A sniper carries a kind of strength most people will never understand, and a patience most people could not endure for an hour. While the world moves, he does not. While noise fills a battlefield, he becomes quiet. His work is not only the shot. It is the long wait before it, the stillness that protects his position, and the discipline that keeps him from giving himself away.
He can remain in one place for hours. Heat, cold, thirst, and strain press on him, and still he does not shift for comfort. A snake can pass near him, like this one. A lion, or any of the most dangerous animals on earth, can move through that ground. He does not flinch. He does not rise. He does not trade his position for fear. One careless movement can expose him, so he holds. That is not ordinary courage. It is control learned until it becomes part of him.
Military training makes that possible. It is harder, stricter, and more exacting than ordinary soldiering. Recruits are taught to obey, to endure, and to fight. A sniper is taken further. He is trained to master his body, his breath, his nerves, and his mind. He learns to watch when others would look away, to wait when others would act, and to stay calm when fear would make another man move. The standard is not common. It is narrow, demanding, and built for those who can carry silence as a duty.
Behind every still figure is a soldier who accepted loneliness, risk, and responsibility for the people who never see him. He protects from a distance. He watches so others can move. He bears the weight of decisions that cannot be rushed.
Hail the snipers. Thank them for the patience few can hold and the sacrifice few can endure. Respect them, and respect every military man and woman trained to stand firm when the moment asks for stillness.
