I came across this TikTok account called Luxurychecked that identifies the actual designer pieces worn by public officials, complete with product photos and their corresponding prices. And honestly, nakakalula ang mga presyo.
One of the posts features Quezon Governor Dr. Helen Tan, and I couldn't help but take a second look. Given the ongoing concerns about corruption and public accountability dito sa Pinas, these displays of luxury naturally raise some questions. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being wealthy. But holding public office also comes with the responsibility to uphold transparency and lead by example.
Under RA 6713, public officials are expected to live modestly, in accordance with their position and income, and avoid ostentatious displays of wealth.
At the end of the day, the question is whether this kind of lifestyle is consistent with an official's declared assets and legitimate sources of income. Konting hiya naman sana sa mga public officials natin, and as taxpayers, we have every right to ask questions!

This latest news about a 15-year old son who allegedly killed his 45-year-old mother who was found dead inside an old septic tank in Barangay Looc, Panglao, Bohol is so disheartening.
According to reports, she was a single mother, whose disagreement with his son started after she reprimanded him for repeatedly cutting classes. The teenager allegedly admitted to killing his mother by strucking his mother’s head with a hammer during the confrontation & dragged her body to an old septic tank and covered it with rocks.
But what is more alarming is there's also a possibility of sexual assault after the victim was reportedly found without clothing. 😭
May the son receive the proper counseling, intervention and diversion programs by DSWD.
Since he is just 15 years old, so he is exempt from criminal responsibility under the Minimum Age of Criminal Responsibility (MACR) unless they are proven to have acted with discernment (the ability to tell right from wrong).

The numbers are sobering.
Japan: 84 years
South Korea: 83 years
Singapore: 83 years
Thailand: 80 years
Malaysia: 76 years
Philippines: 72 years
These are comparable World Bank life-expectancy figures for 2022.
Why the gap?
It is not simply about what Filipinos eat or whether they exercise. Longevity is shaped by many factors, including income, education, environment, lifestyle and the healthcare system.
But one issue demands our attention:
ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE.
Prevention. Early diagnosis. Affordable medicines. Timely treatment. Continuity of care.
We cannot ask Filipinos to take better care of their health while failing to build a system that allows them to do so.
A Filipino life should not be shorter simply because quality healthcare is harder to reach.
Universal Health Care must ultimately be measured not by promises or budgets, but by healthier people and longer lives.
FILIPINOS DESERVE BOTH.
