"First of all, I'm the soloist, the soul controller. Rakim gets stronger as I get older."
I’m currently dealing with the side effects of a white blood cell injection. It stimulates my bone marrow & is painful. My job is to get through the pain. Today, my close friend Myron cleaned up my profile picture. Things like this help me get through the hardest rounds. -m
I finished my 4th chemo treatment. None are easy. Fortunately, I’m surrounded by friends & family who check in & lift my spirits. On one occasion, Chuck D checked in & said, “You are Black Steel,” a reference to his song, Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos. I needed that & now. -m

PET CT Scan Update: The large tumor mass in my stomach is gone, along with the cancer that had spread to my bone marrow. Only a small amount remains. I’m still bald. I’m still standing, and I still have plenty of fight left in me. Love. -m
I’m entering my 4th chemo treatment, and each one takes its toll. I’ve lost weight and muscle mass, but I haven’t lost my mind or my will to get them back. -m
Pain and suffering are companions on my journey, but make no mistake about it, they are not my friends. -m
When I was a teen, and our family was splitting up, I dreamed of a time when we’d all be together again in peace and love. For decades, I held onto that dream. Yesterday, it came true. Love and Gratitude. -m
Chemotherapy strips you of many things however, it can’t take away the historic experience my son and I shared at Yankee Stadium in celebration of Hip-Hop 50. Love -m
Every move I make comes with a price in pain. Luckily for me, I’ve always had a high tolerance for pain. Don’t get it twisted. I don’t welcome any of this, but I’m not running away from it. More chemo tomorrow, and whatever happens, happens. -m
Another walk, another mile. Considering I couldn’t walk without assistance last month. I’ll take this as a win. -m
Most of my side effects are painful, but losing my hair is a layup. My third (out of 6) chemotherapy treatment is on Sept 14th. None have been easy, and you don’t get any days off. As long as I’m breathing, I’ll keep fighting. Love -m
I just walked a mile. Last month I could barely walk. A few weeks ago, I was using a walker. One step at a time. -m
I appreciate everyone who took the time yesterday to contact me with birthday wishes & support. I spent the day at the cancer institute. My son Justin stayed, along with my Pops, who flew in from Detroit, & showed up at my door without warning. But that is another story. Love -m
