This is probably what happened:
- her friends found out what happened
- they clearly were disgusted by it
- she increasingly used language to distance herself from the act to save her reputation, made it sound less consensual
- this led to ingroup pressure to report it to “keep this from happening to other girls”
- the police asked basic questions like “did you agree to it? did you ask them to stop? did anyone force you to take drugs or have sex”
- under the most basic questioning her case fell apart because no one in her own circle asked her any of these because all the programming is to “believe women”
Here's one thing I'm confused about re: the Cornell rape case: The DA says that the reason his office didn't bring charges is that Jane Doe told police that what happened was "voluntary, conscious, and consensual." But like... who is going to the police station to report voluntary, conscious, and consensual group sex? Obviously that's not what she thought it was.
