this is a great idea.
i love Halo, imo its the best Sci-Fi universe yet created in the 21st century. i share the opinion of many others that 343/Halo Studios era could and should be totally discarded and the franchise should pick up after the events of Halo 3. the original story was disregarded for a convoluted mess that has no connection to the vision its creators had in mind.
Activision has a big job on their hands. i hope they treat this Sci-Fi world i love with care and do it justice.
Here's my free advice to Activision on how to proceed with Halo:
Step 1: Contact and request an audience with the following original Halo/Bungie devs: Jaime Griesemer, Chris Barrett, Marty O'Donnell, and Marcus Lehto.
The goal of the conversations should be to answer the following questions: "How and why did the 343 Halo games not live up to the Bungie Halo games? How can future Halo games do better in this regard?"
Have those discussions. See if you can find a common understanding. Beyond that, the franchise is Activision's to find success or failure. But perform this necessary due diligence immediately.
Let me use a hypothetical to help make the point:
Let's say that I was given the game director role on the next Half-Life game. And then I was asked, "Hey, would you like to meet and chat with some of the original devs from Half-Life1/2? They would be happy to share their knowledge." My answer would be "Yes, of course. Only a fucking idiot would choose NOT to talk w the original devs."
It would seem that 343/Halo Studios didn't see this as an important part of the process.. and we all know how that ended.
I hope Activision doesn't make the same mistake.

I am going to politely tell you to shut the fuck up, the adults are talking
Replying to @DesiredCE
Bungie purists would rather wipe over a decade of Halo lore than accept that humans arent Forerunners. They wanna be pandered to so bad.

If there is any physical limit on growth, it’s the heat death of the universe and nothing else.
Degrowthers often appeal to the intuition that economic growth must end because continuous growth is impossible.
The economist Kenneth Boulding famously argued that infinite growth is impossible on a planet with finite resources (and, he added, that only a madman or an economist would think otherwise).
But the claim that we should slow growth now does not follow from the claim that growth is finite. The finitude of growth tells us nothing about when growth might end.

Yankee Doodle Dandy meant a provincial, rural, bumbling retard dressing themselves garishly to appear higher status than they were. Americans took that and made it into a symbol of pride. Chud is no different. I can go on, and on with examples. It is in our character to do this.

Creation Engine is the subject of many jokes but it is incredible at what it does.
The engine is expressly built to let you pick up every single item in the game. Anyone pushing for another engine is pushing to move away from what makes Elder Scrolls and Fallout what they are.

I occasionally give the “video games and their audience/narrative background/moral intentions are the most important artform of the modern West” spiel, but in terms of the literal art and aesthetic, even here there is a reflection of the West’s own incoherence.
Doesn’t this remind you, just a little bit, of a claimed maintenance of civic identity? While the flesh and blood nation is changed out for anything and everything that only superficially resembles it in form (or not at all)?
Halo *shaped* rings, yes, but the textures are all wrong! Why did they need to change? And then eventually the scale and backstory does too. Someone might then claim - “what do you care? It’s an update. It looks more modern” - yet curiously exhibit extreme resistance to just making things *look* the same, as though there were secretly, even unconsciously, concerned intensely with more than just the superficial things changing.
Isn’t that curious? Isn’t it strange how this plays out?
