Rights issue yeUS$20 million yaenda kwakaenda mvura yemuchirimo. Vakuru vakati; Murombo haarove chine nguwo; kana akarova, chinenge chaonda kare.
Investors paid in expecting the US$20 million rights issue to revive a corpse, they waited, and at some point they thought their luck had turned, but the kill was already skin and bone.
Now the company is being delisted with no way out for the people who put money in. They are locked in the kraal with a cow that has gone dry: they cannot milk it and they cannot sell it. Everything they put in has gone the way of a dry season shower, and before long nobody will even remember it fell.
In a September article in The Herald, I noted that although OK Zimbabwe had successfully raised $20 million through a rights issue, the capital injection alone does not guarantee a successful turnaround. The paragraph that quoted me started with “However,” indicating that my comment was presented in contrast to what the writer had previously said about the company’s situation. I also cautioned that the underlying issues are so big that the normalization process will take time. Now it looks like l was right, things have actually gone from bad to worse.

This is a follow-up to my July 2025 report in The Zimbabwe Independent, which put ZSE Holdings at US$2.5m to US$3m against a US$13.5m listing tag.
FY2025 came in at the base case, with revenue up 5% and an operating loss after impairment. H1 2026 changed the picture, with revenue up 37% to $4.85m, a 37% operating margin and $2.27m of cash. My model now puts intrinsic value at $9.3m, or 9.1 US cents a share.

📖 Philip Fisher – Pioneer of Growth Investing
“The stock market is filled with individuals who know the price of everything, but the value of nothing.”_
Early Life and Education
Philip Arthur Fisher was born on September 8, 1907, in San Francisco, California. He graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in economics and began his career at the Anglo-London Bank in San Francisco as a securities analyst. Despite his immense success, Fisher always maintained a relatively low profile despite his immense success.
Founding Fisher & Co.
In 1931, at the height of the Great Depression, Fisher founded Fisher & Company, an investment firm that allowed him to refine and implement his unique philosophy.
His career was briefly interrupted by World War II, during which he served as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
After the war, he returned to his firm, where he consistently delivered strong returns for his clients. His innovative strategies not only shaped the future of his firm but also influenced some of the greatest minds in investing, including Warren Buffett.
This chapter of his career allowed him to refine and implement a distinctive investment philosophy, one that would later serve as the foundation for the strategies adopted by countless successful investors.
Notable Works and Publications
Fisher pioneered growth investing, introducing the buy-and-hold method that focused on a stock’s long-term potential rather than short-term price movements.
He believed that “it is only occasionally that there is any reason for selling at all.”
His famous purchase of Motorola stock in 1955, which he held until his death in 2004, epitomized his conviction in long-term investing.
In 1958, Philip Fisher wrote "Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits", which became required reading at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Published during a time of great prosperity and a post-World War II bull market, the book embraces the prospect of continued long-term growth.
In his landmark book, Fisher introduced the “15 Points to Look for in a Common Stock” , a timeless framework that guides investors to evaluate leadership strength, innovative capacity, and management integrity.
He also popularized the *Scuttlebutt* technique, encouraging investors to actively network and gather firsthand insights about the companies in which they invest, in order to uncover a company’s true potential.
The *Scuttlebutt* approach influenced some of the greatest investing minds, including Warren Buffett, who once described himself as being 85% Benjamin Graham and 15% Philip Fisher.
According to Philip Fisher’s strategy, valid reasons to sell a stock arise when the initial assessment of the company proves to have been in error, when the business no longer meets the fundamental tests it satisfied at the time of purchase, or when a superior investment opportunity presents itself to the investor.
Other Works
Fisher expanded his philosophy in "Paths to Wealth Through Common Stocks (1960)", where he emphasized concentration over excessive diversification, and in "Conservative Investors Sleep Well", which explored the balance between risk and intrinsic value.
His writings offer a treasure trove of wisdom on evaluating businesses and making sensible decisions.
Legacy and Influence
Philip Fisher spent his career encouraging investors to research their investments and plan for a long-term portfolio. As an advisor and the author of works on investing principles and strategies, his philosophy stands out for its endurance and its heavy emphasis on qualitative insights.
His son, Ken Fisher, carried forward the family legacy by founding Fisher Investments, one of the world’s largest independent money management firms.
Even in our modern, data-driven age, his focus on deep qualitative analysis and the scuttlebutt approach remains relevant.

INDEX UP 63%, MARKET UP 2%: THE ZSE RALLY THAT ISN’T
The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange All Share Index rose 63% between 31 December 2025 and 11 September 2026, while the combined value of the shares it measures (Market Cap) increased only 2.42%.
Our latest report examines the gap and finds a rally concentrated in two months and four counters, alongside significant changes to the market itself. Five companies left the board, removing 21.59% of December’s value, while CBZ and FBC generated 182% of the board’s third-quarter gain.
The evidence suggests that the headline index performance, which tells only one part of the story, needs to be read alongside market composition, concentration and liquidity.

Five months ago, I wrote an article titled From Tea to Trouble: Ariston Sinks, Tanganda Struggles, in which I pointed out that Ariston was technically insolvent and heading toward collapse.

SIGHTS THAT SINK THE HEART: This is the iconic tea estate at CLEARWATER in Chipinge last weekend. It is owned by ARISTON, a Multinational Company. Things have gone west. Workers are in their eighth months with no pay; they are having to catch fish at some little dam near MVURACHENA HIGH SCHOOL to sustain their families. Equipment at the once sprawling Tea and Macadamia nuts Estate has been attached. What’s going on, ARISTON???

I hope it’s clear why I said this is the best article I’ve written. Consider what would happen to ZSE Holdings’ cash flows if major players like Econet chose to delist. Companies of Econet’s size are the main drivers of both liquidity and trading volumes on ZSE exchange market. If they lose confidence in the market, it would signal that the exchange lacks solid fundamentals. This lack of fundamentals is a key reason why my intrinsic valuation for ZSE Holdings is about US$3 million, relative to its July 2025 listing price of US$13.5 million. The stock’s market cap has since declined by over 70%, from US$13.5 million to about US$3.5 million - aligning with my intrinsic value.
Let’s connect at the Capital Markets Awards on 11 December 2025 and discuss these developments and valuations in person.

Congratulations to my brother #AlphonseTMaketo for authoring a book that is a must read for all those who wish to pursue their dreams and economic opportunities.
Like any other country, Zimbabwe has challenges and opportunities existing side by side. A correct mindset is needed to see the opportunities and in instances convert threats into opportunities.
See you there.
