350,000 cardiac arrests occur annually in the US. Of those, <10٪ live to hospital discharge. A major reason is a lack of bystander CPR. As most cardiac arrests occur at home, it means the person who loves the victim the most isn't delivering the needed life-saving aid. Why? ...

THIS. I had never heard of agonal breathing before I heard @DGlaucomflecken doing it. I thought he was snoring, then I thought he was having a respiratory issue. I would never have known to do chest compressions without the 911 dispatcher telling me to. We need more awareness!

#Survivorship after #CardiacArrest is complex & impacts everyone in the #SystemofCare @youcansavealife @SCAA @patientslikeme @MakeBLSBasic @BystandersNet @SCCMPresident @RecoveryICU @icurehab @DrRosalindCase
New statement in @CircAHA highlights survival after #cardiacarrest as complex & requiring long-term support. Healthcare partners & community leaders can provide survivors, families & rescuers a chance to share stories & become advocates for CPR training and general CA awareness.
Revolutionary collaboration taking place in Pittsburgh with #MinutesMatterPGH. To the everyday individual, time-sensitive emergency interventions should feel basic. Basic Life Support should feel basic.
It’s #HeartMonth & this is timely! CardiacArrest, heart disease, Stroke, trauma are time-sensitive emergencies & we ALL need to know what to do to SaveALife! #MinutesMatterPGH #LifeisWhy #CPRsavescommunities @PittsburghAHA @youcansavealife @MakeBLSBasic @WeAreSCAUK
This was quick and easy!

There are multiple ways to learn the life saving skill of CPR and different levels of certification. To simplify think:
#makeblsbasic
1. BLS Certification: Generally more expensive/ comprehensive. Mandated for certain professions.
2. Friends and Family CPR: More affordable option for general population. Receive a certificate of participation.
3. Hands Only CPR: Accessible, simplified yet effective training. Many local AHA offices offer this training for free to organizations. Contact yours today!
Whichever path you decide we recommend EVERYONE receive hands on training. Learn to save the one you love.

Already shown in black neighborhoods we now know survival and bystander CPR rates are lower in Hispanic communities.

Unfortunately these are NOT fun facts. Among male division I basketball players the rate of sudden cardiac death is 1:3000. This isn't a disease of the old. Be prepared. Save the one you love. #makeblsbasic

Half of Americans don't know how to identify a heart attack. I'd suspect even more can't differentiate a heart attack from a cardiac arrest. If you can't recognize it you can't treat it. Could you save the one you love? #MakeBLSBasic

Why we're so passionate about out of hospital cardiac arrest. This is a database of consecutive cardiac arrest patients. Only 1 survived. Each of these victims woke up at home with their families but never made it back to their beds. Can you save the one you love? #makeblsbasic
Perfect score! Three important components to life saving CPR: 1. Depth of compressions 2. Rate of compressions 3. Hand positioning.
