Apparently I'm in the minority but I know I'm not alone in finding Nathan Fielder's passive aggressive schtick extremely repulsive. He's a type of metamodern I loathe, and I can't stand watching someone I don't trust *at all.*

A timely reminder that leaked Israeli studies found that pushing pro-Israel propaganda to Westerners didnt work & instead they advised spending millions blasting the West with racist Islamophobic content demonizing Muslims instead. I think about that a lot while browsing Twitter

Did the pope benefit from early cancer detection? There’s no way to know. @VPrasadMDMPH explains: “Should a 70-year-olds who have never smoked line up to get CT scans of the lung? Whole body. MRIs? My answer is no. They should not for the simple reason that these interventions have not demonstrated benefit.” open.substack.com/pub/vinayp…

It turns out a ton of small brands on Amazon have been bought out by giant conglomerates and made much worse. Many of them deceptively keep the old brand name and old high ratings, even as they enshittify their products. worseonpurpose.com

Call it the Elon Effect
Major threshold passed. Almost all cars will be electric in the future.

I'm quite sure that 3 days of continuous death threats and doxxing *feels* like being put in danger, regardless of Clarkson's intent. But she's been famous for long enough to have known better.
😳 Kelly Clarkson Bird Feud: Art of Play co-owner says employees are getting threats. "Kelly Clarkson has put us all in danger."

Ugh. I'm a longtime fan of @ArtofPlay, which also runs 69 Atlantic, the best magic theater in NYC. One of the founders is a casual acquaintance and a co-founder of the whole cardistry movement. It's a store with exquisite taste and joy. I very much doubt they mistreated Clarkson in any way, and she comes out of this looking like a triggered Karen.

In retrospect, I regret trotting out the "Karen" metaphor, and apologize to all women named Karen. I don't think Clarkson meant any harm but I do think she probably overreacted and -- perhaps unintentionally -- misused her massive platform to target a small (and wonderful) business.

One of a slew of cases that have cropped up on my feed just today of @Meta censoring pro-Palestinian content. Unfortunately, the #censorship industrial complex didn't end with the Biden Administration.
🚨Instagram just SUSPENDED Children’s Health Defense. Hey Mark Zuckerberg, what happened to “no more censorship”? @finkd No clear explanation. No specific post identified. Just a vague claim that we violated “Community Standards.” What exactly did we violate? If you’re going to silence a non profit organization that is sharing the truth, the least you can do is tell us why. Thank you, @elonmusk, for providing a platform where we can continue speaking freely and share vital information so parents can make informed decisions. We will not be silenced. Tag @finkd and let him know if you stand with CHD.

Since Coogler's a genius among geniuses I will be watching this and everything else he ever does.
Ryan Coogler’s ‘THE X-FILES’ reboot has officially been ordered to series at Hulu. It will follow two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents, played by Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.

People love to hate on Lena Dunham but the truth is "Girls" was a brilliant show that nailed the zeitgeist. I'm here for whatever Dunham wants to do next. Side note: If you never saw "Tiny Furniture," Dunham's indie feature film that preceded (and in some ways birthed) "Girls," you should.
Guess who’s back, back again… #GIRLS, created by and starring Lena Dunham, will return to HBO Max for five new episodes.

My wife saw this post (video stolen from @ItsKimJava), now going viral again and asked me about it, so I showed her this 2018 interview clip most people have never seen: @elonmusk ’s side of the Eberhard story, which is crucial context:
Elon Musk is worth $908 billion, and this weekend he asked world-class engineers to come join Tesla. Tesla once tried to cancel the sale of one car to the man who named the company. Martin Eberhard had already paid for Founders Series car number 2, and he had to sue to get it. Eberhard started Tesla with Marc Tarpenning in 2003 and was its first CEO. Musk wrote the biggest check of the first round, became chairman and later blamed Eberhard for the Roadster's delays and overruns. "I had paid full price in advance for this car. And they tried to rescind that deal," he says. Before he got it, a Tesla test driver drove it into the back of a truck. The car became part of his 2009 lawsuit against Musk. Founders Series cars were meant to carry a plaque signed by Eberhard and Tarpenning. By delivery he had been pushed out, and the plaque Tesla sent later had other people's signatures, not theirs. His license plate now reads FOUNDER. His daily Roadster came off a used lot in Los Angeles with about 175 miles on it. The previous owner, he says, was Justine Musk, who won it in the divorce and never drove it. Nobody had to sue for that one.

You know the Russophobic propaganda is especially shoddy if even the BBC won’t parrot it. Sorry, Russiagate bots.
Claims that Ukrainian strikes on Yandex data centres reduced Russia-linked bot networks have spread widely online and were repeated by President Zelensky, but experts have told BBC Verify there is no evidence the attacks have significantly reduced them. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9y7…

I’ve been to Art of Play many times for magic shows, and Molly the purely mechanical bird is really cool. Here’s a video I shot last year. I can see why Kelly Clarkson would want to buy it. But also, Kelly Clarkson + Art of Play’s Molly is so random a collision that I’m upgrading my belief in the simulation hypothesis

“The truth will only offend those who would rather defend lies.” ― Carlos Wallace It's time for gun control advocates to take an honest look in the mirror
Gun controllers promised a bloodbath. Bruen would turn cities into the “Wild West.” Permitless carry would mean more shootings and killings. Cargill would put “blood on our streets.” NFA tax relief would endanger communities. Reality: Estimated U.S. murders fell ~36% from 2022–2025. The 2025 rate tied the FBI’s historical low. Violent crime dropped 9.3%, the largest single-year decline since national estimates began in 1936. Texas and Florida saw major murder-rate drops after constitutional carry. Even the broad mass-shooting count fell after the bump-stock ban was struck down. The predictions were loud. The murder declines were substantial. The organizations demanding we surrender rights still owe an explanation. @2AFDN

I've now seen AfD, MAGA, and MAHA-related posts being claimed (falsely) to have gone down in the wake of the Russian data center bombing. McCarthyism is alive and well among the Left, sadly
Strikes on Yandex data centers occurred Oct 8-11. Relative Google search interest for terms like turbo cancer and ivermectin declined in some charts around then. However, analyses show those drops largely continued pre-existing downward trends from mid-September. Cloudflare bot traffic falls reflected Yandex search crawlers, not social media trolls. Experts found no clear evidence of disrupted disinformation bots driving the searches. Correlation exists; causation remains unproven.

There's a story going around: after the drone strikes on Yandex data centres, comments on AfD and MAGA accounts collapsed. We monitor 17,000+ politicians, media and civil society accounts in 30+ countries. 50,000+ posts a day. So we checked. We don't see it. 🧵

Yup, I've seen claims that posts mentioning AfD, Tucker Carlsen, Republican policies and more have fallen off a cliff. It's all apparently bullshit but clearly an organized McCarthyite disinformation campaign.
I have literally never seen this level of information push in all the years I have been here. This is insane, especially when it is allegedly about "the silence of Russian bots". Whatever the alleged Russian bots that are now "silenced" have never caused this kind of an avalanche in posts. My whole feed is full of this "bots are silenced" propaganda
