Regarding this topic, it's interesting that Toriyama had previously stated that he originally designed the structure around Freeza's torso as a part of his body, but eventually changed his mind and made it an armor (as he depicted in the scene where it breaks)

I think it’s neat that the language of the God who made the Dragon Balls is depicted here with a reversed Japanese vocal track, and later in Super the “language of the gods” used for the Super Dragon Balls is depicted using reverse-order Japanese syllables.
I would MUCH prefer this as a reason for the stage getting messed up than Kale going randomly a-Broly-ing so early on. Just have the Gods of Destruction mess it all up and be very sheepish when they fail to fix it in time for the Tournament.
