I don't understand, why is the French govt not protecting France?

...but laughter is a leap.
The most profound passage in all of G. K. Chesterton, at least to me

And in the blink of an eye, the government have gone from “we need to reduce the carbon footprint to save the planet" to "we will build mega AI data centres that massively deplete energy and water supplies”.

'I cannot live without books'—Thomas Jefferson
In 1815, Thomas Jefferson sold more than 6,000 books from his personal library to the United States government. The collection helped rebuild the Library of Congress after British troops burned the Capitol in 1814. Jefferson's library included works on history, philosophy, science, and classical literature. But even after selling thousands of books, he continued collecting more. For Jefferson, books were not simply decorations or possessions. They were essential to an educated life. As he wrote to John Adams in 1815: “I cannot live without books.”

Many people grew up watching old cartoons and... memorized classical music by heart. Franz Liszt's *Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2* became legendary thanks to two of the greatest pianists in history: Bugs Bunny (*Rhapsody Rabbit*, 1946) and Tom & Jerry (*The Cat Concerto*).

New York’s original Pennsylvania Station opened in 1910. Its monumental waiting room, inspired by ancient Roman architecture, was demolished beginning in 1963. A building intended to express the city’s confidence and ambition survived barely 53 years. Its destruction became a defining event in American architectural preservation. Cities should consider carefully what future generations lose when historic landmarks are demolished for immediate commercial gain.

The award is the latest example of how the media has become a ship of fools. Journalists now report for each other as the vast majority of Americans seek alternatives. They continue to replicate their own views and mistakes rather than abandon their bias. jonathanturley.org/2026/10/1…

Only 46 measures. Approximately 4 minutes. Mozart wrote “Ave Verum Corpus” in June 1791 — near the end of his life. So simple it's almost bare, yet it contains the heavens. Leonardo Bernstein conducted it at Waldsassen Cathedral in 1990 — slowly, lovingly, as if unwilling to leave each note. A miracle in a small package.

Deeply shocking revelations of the metastasizing venality and mendacity (i.e. fraud) of the dominant political party #DFL and govt in my home state by @ArminRosen
The story that every mainstream media outlet in America is too scared to touch: Minnesota’s multi-billion dollar Medicaid fraud. Seems like the whole state is in on it. A blockbuster report by the great Armin Rosen: countyhighway.com/archive/vo…
