One of the important tests for mammalian whole cell models could be to test/explain the multiplicity of phenotypic involvements of functional variants.

Take a moment to learn about Julia (the programming language) if you don't already! I think they make some really compelling points in this piece.
Here we show how #julialang enables new biology nature.com/articles/s41592-0… Thanks to @Roesch_E @jgreener64 @adamlmaclean @nassarhuda @ChrisRackauckas Tim Holy, our eagle eyed reviewers & @rita_strack @naturemethods for superb support! I love a good mountaineering analogy 😎

So happy to see this paper finally published 😍. It was a great collaboration and kudos to @Roesch_E and @theosysbio for leading it. Friends in Biology or any Biology-adjacent field, this paper will likely be very interesting to you: nature.com/articles/s41592-0…
Out in final form, our perspective on why the Julia programming language is well-suited to biology: nature.com/articles/s41592-0… Great to do this as part of the @JuliaLanguage community: @adamlmaclean, @nassarhuda, @ChrisRackauckas, Tim Holy and led by @Roesch_E, @theosysbio

And this is why @MacsysCoe will base whole cell modelling on #julialang
Replying to @ChrisRackauckas
The final result is code that looks like the math but also does not sacrifice features or performance. Yes, that bit right there is runnable code, and that runnable code is one of the fastest chemical reaction simulators out there!

🧵explaining why I won’t be joining institutional #InternationalWomansDay2023 events. If institutions want to be seen as change makers, invest in that. I’ll celebrate you when I see data showing equal recognition and 💰spent on women’s work as on men’s. #Academic #WomenInSTEM 1

An excellent Monday morning read. A rallying cry and a reminder that it is a thrilling time to be a theoretical biologist.
New wave theory In his Editorial, Associate Editor @p_r_francois highlights the long history of theory for biology & encourages submissions of theoretical papers describing developing and regenerating systems to Development journals.biologists.com/dev/…

It was impressive reviewing the papers from our field to show how far understanding has come for the quantitative aspects of bacterial cell surfaces and the processes by which they are made rdcu.be/c6iIS @CentreImpactAMR @MacsysCoe @MonashBDI

How do microbial interactions look like in dysbiosis? We performed a large-scale metagenome-wide metabolic modelling study and found that it largely depends on the disease. Preprint here: biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor… 🧵1/5

Don’t miss the February issue of @CellSystemsCP! It is all about microbial communities! 🦠 Cool perspectives & reviews and many different opinions on the “key challenges for engineering microbiomes” (including my two cents on the topic). 👇🏼 cell.com/cell-systems/fullte…
