Two things are converging right now, and almost nobody is putting them in the same sentence: 1. First, Ottawa has committed to getting seventy per cent of defence spending into Canadian firms, and the defence budget is headed to five per cent of GDP by 2035; that's the largest industrial opportunity this country has had in generations. 2. Second, it's arriving at the exact moment tariffs have hollowed out our auto sector, which is why Canadian defence companies like Dominion are looking at that idle capacity as a chance to reindustrialize Canada. There's no clean win available in these negotiations, and I can’t imagine either side wants these tariffs to come into effect. What we can control, and it’s what coalitions like the Alliance of Canadian Defence Companies are doing, is focusing on rebuilding Canadian capabilities that never left.
