Recognising a silent distress signal can make all the difference. 💙
(A thread)
An 18-year-old woman travelling on the Tube was subjected to unwanted attention and inappropriate physical contact from a man she had encountered on her journey.
As they exited the station, she spotted Callum, a Customer Service Assistant, and repeatedly used the Signal for Help by opening her palm, closing her fingers and trapping her thumb.
Callum recognised the signal, immediately stepped in and separated the woman from the man, helping to bring her to safety
Thanks to Callum’s vigilance and swift action, the woman was supported and the incident was reported. Enquiries are now underway to identify the man, with CCTV being reviewed.
Callum was also nominated by the @BTP's Assistant Chief Constable, Charlie Doyle, for a Safeguarding Commendation.
Know the signal. Know what to do. Watch Callum demonstrate the Signal for Help and learn how recognising it could help someone in distress. ✋✊
Thank you to Callum for recognising the signal and taking action.

#7in7TheGrandFinale ❤️ 🧡 💙 is the seventh and last of Sir Kevin Sinfield's #7in7, but his compassion and stamina for the #MND community will endure....
"I think because this is called The Grand Finale, the assumption’s been made that that’s it. I’ve never said that. I’ve been consistent in the messaging that I’m in this for life, so, what it looks like going forward, I can say I do not know yet. But whilst I’m still able to run and contribute and support, I’ll keep trying to do my little bit.”
Delighted, excited and truly humbled to be joining you for #TheExtraMile in #Leigh tomorrow!

** I lifted this off Facebook. It is a great post by Mick Doyle **
I keep hearing Americans say:
“I’m not responsible for Trump. I didn’t vote for him.”
Okay.
But let me tell you how this looks from outside the United States.
I live in a major border town. I see American licence plates every day. Lots of them.
And here's the uncomfortable truth:
I don't stop to wonder whether the person behind the wheel voted for Trump.
I don't know them. I don't know their politics. I don't know whether they despise Trump or worship him.
I see the American plate.
And whether it's fair or not, I automatically associate them with the country whose government is doing these things.
That's what national identity does.
That's how the rest of the world sees you.
When the United States invades a country, threatens another, imposes economic warfare, supplies weapons for a war, or attacks the sovereignty of another nation, the world doesn't have the luxury of separating every individual American from the actions of the American state.
The United States invaded Venezuela.
The United States is waging economic war against Canada.
The United States has seriously contemplated military action against Mexico, a sovereign country.
The United States has repeatedly threatened the sovereignty of Greenland.
The United States is supplying Israel with weapons and military support while Gaza is being devastated.
The United States continues its decades-long economic strangulation of Cuba.
And then comes:
“But that's Trump. I'm not responsible. I didn't vote for him.”
Maybe you didn't.
But here's the problem:
The rest of the world sees the American flag.
We don't see your ballot.
We don't know how you voted.
We see your government.
And if you genuinely oppose what your government is doing, then don't simply ask the rest of the world to distinguish you from it.
Make the distinction visible.
Protest.
Organize.
March.
Speak out.
Put pressure on your representatives.
Make your opposition impossible to ignore.
Because the midterms are still up in the air. There is no guaranteed deliverance from this menace waiting around the corner.
Trump could lose. He could win. Congress could change. It could remain divided.
Nobody knows.
And while everyone waits for an election to potentially save them, American power continues to be exercised around the world.
So no, I don't believe every American is a Trump supporter.
But I also don't believe Americans can simply wash their hands of what the United States does by saying:
“That's Trump, not me.”
Because whether you like it or not, national actions create national reputations.
I live with that reality every day when I see those American plates.
And so does the rest of the world.
You may not be Trump.
But the world sees the American flag.
Full stop.

In 1988 Dolly Parton pulled every 7th and 8th grader in Sevier County into a room and told them to pick a buddy.
She made them sign a contract.. if BOTH graduate, she hands you both $500. One fails, nobody gets paid.
The county dropout rate went from 35% to 6%.
She handed out the checks herself.
In 1989 she offered $500 to every kid in the county who wanted to go to the local college.
When Gatlinburg burned in 2016, she sent 900 families $1,000 a month for six months.
You've probably heard that part.
Here's the part you haven't:
The fund raised more than expected, so she showed up in May and handed every one of those families another $5,000 on top.
Then she quietly put $3 million into the recovery group that handles the years after the news trucks leave.
She built her county an entire hospital.
She played a benefit concert in 2007, Dollywood and the Stampede matched it, and LeConte Medical Center opened in 2010 with a birthing unit and a women's center in it.
In 2022 she started covering 100% of tuition, books, and fees for Dollywood employees.
Full-time, part-time, AND seasonal.
In 1991 she paid for a bald eagle sanctuary because the birds couldn't be released back into the wild, no press release.
And when Hurricane Helene came through here in Western North Carolina, she wrote a personal check for $1 million and her companies matched it.
She didn't owe North Carolina anything, but she helped anyway.
She started the Imagination Library because her daddy couldn't read or write. Before he passed, he told her it was the most important thing she ever did.
Rest in Peace, Dolly 🇺🇸

Two Muslim men pulled an elderly couple and their grandson from a burning house in Leeds last Friday.
You probably didn’t hear about it.
Mohsin Qayyum. 22.
Mohammed Yusuf Iqbal. 20.
Both from Bradford.
They drove past the garden. They saw the fire. They ran straight in.
Sheila Robinson, the grandmother who was trapped inside, posted on social media:
"My family and I will be forever grateful to these young men."
Her granddaughter Kayla wrote:
"Drove past the garden, seen it, and ran straight in and made sure everyone was okay without a second thought."
Everyone got out. The house can be replaced. The family is alive.
Every outlet that covered it called them heroes.
They deserved every word.
But not one headline told you they were Muslim men.
We have seen this before.
Two weeks ago, a teacher was stabbed in the neck protecting his pupils from a knife in his Manchester classroom.
Maysum Abdullah. 27. Science teacher.
LBC named him a hero. So did the Independent, the Manchester Evening News, the Mirror, the Sun.
He ran towards the blade.
A hero in every paper. A Muslim man in none of them.
This is the pattern.
When a Muslim name appears in a crime, the faith leads the headline.
When a Muslim name appears in a rescue, it vanishes from the page.
Now look at who that erasure clears the path for.
Bradford, the same district these men come from, is now led by Reform as its largest party.
One of their candidates, Daniel Devaney, topped the poll in his ward after writing on Facebook that Muslims were "pure scum" and that he wanted to "blast [them] off the face of the earth."
He was not deselected. He was not suspended. He was elected.
They are loud about our religion when they want to call it a threat.
They are silent when that same religion sends two young men running into a fire.
The book they want to criticise is the same book that commands us to save a life.
"Whoever saves one life, it is as if he had saved all of mankind."
— Qur'an 5:32
Qayyum and Iqbal lived that verse on a Friday in Leeds.
Abdullah lived it in a Manchester classroom.
And the headlines recorded the act, but erased the faith that drove it.
When we are the suspect, our religion is the whole story.
When we are the rescuer, it is not worth a line.
Their names are Maysum Abdullah, Mohsin Qayyum, and Mohammed Yusuf Iqbal.
Muslim men.
Say both.

London Underground station flooding has reportedly been reduced by around 90% thanks to a group of engineers: beavers.
After conservationists reintroduced a family of beavers into a nearby city park, the animals built dams and restored wetlands that now absorb and slow floodwater naturally.
Authorities had planned major man-made flood infrastructure, but the beavers effectively created their own system — while also boosting biodiversity and restoring the ecosystem around them.

Please repost if you want the full restoration of our EU Freedom of Movement, which was stolen from us by the worst abuses of democracy in modern British history.
This is the debate that we have to win if the UK is to rejoin the Single Market or the EU. In 2016 the Remain campaign did not defend our Freedom of Movement because its spineless leaders were frightened of the right-wing press. Our freedom was robbed from us without a debate.
The wave of migration from Eastern Europe is a thing of the past. Thanks to EU membership, Eastern European countries have greatly reduced the economic gap with the UK. The immigration hysteria of 2016 was a panic about a migration surge that was predictably soon going to end, but the wretched Remain leadership failed to make that point. Indeed, given its leadership, it is remarkable that Remain got as much as 48%

In 1943, Paris - a woman sits in a Gestapo interrogation room, her feet bleeding, her body broken.
The officers across from her know she's holding secrets. Names of British agents. Locations of resistance safe houses. Intelligence that could dismantle entire networks across France.
They've already started the torture. Her toenails are being removed, one at a time. Soon they'll use heated irons on her back. They'll lock her in darkness for weeks. They'll promise her life in exchange for just one name.
She's a 30-year-old mother of three. Not a soldier. Not a spy by training. Just a French-born housewife who was living quietly in England until Hitler's armies swallowed her homeland.
That's when Odette Sansom made a choice that most of us will never have to make. She left her three daughters behind and volunteered for Britain's Special Operations Executive, the shadow organization built to sabotage Nazi operations from within.
The SOE didn't want career military. They wanted people who could disappear into occupied territory. People who spoke native French. People willing to accept that capture likely meant torture and execution.
Odette knew the odds. She volunteered anyway.
By 1942, she was operating in occupied France under the codename "Lise," coordinating resistance cells, organizing sabotage, funneling intelligence back to London. She worked alongside Captain Peter Churchill, building networks that struck at German supply lines and communications.
For months, they were ghosts. Then a collaborator sold them out.
Now she's in this room. In this chair. Facing men who have perfected the art of breaking human beings.
And here's what they don't understand: Odette Sansom has already decided she won't break. Not for pain. Not for promises. Not even to save her own life.
Because she knows that every name she gives means another agent tortured. Another resistance fighter executed. Another family destroyed.
So she gives them nothing. Through months of interrogation. Through agony most of us can't fathom. Through solitary confinement and death threats.
Nothing.
The Gestapo eventually realizes they can't break her. They send her to Ravensbrück concentration camp, condemned under "Night and Fog" protocol, prisoners meant to vanish without trace.
She survives more than a year there by convincing the commandant she's related to Winston Churchill. It's a complete lie, but it keeps her alive.
When Allied forces arrive in 1945, that same commandant tries using her as a bargaining chip. The moment they reach American lines, Odette identifies him as a war criminal. He's arrested on the spot.
Britain awarded her the George Cross, the highest civilian honor for courage. The citation was clear: for refusing to betray her comrades despite torture that would break nearly anyone.
Then in 1951, someone stole the medal from her home. Months later, it arrived in the mail with an anonymous note. The thief had researched what it represented and couldn't live with keeping it.
Even criminals recognized what that medal meant.
Odette Sansom Hallowes lived to 82, spending decades honoring fallen comrades and embodying quiet strength. She always insisted she'd simply done what anyone should do.
But that's not true. What she did was extraordinary. She proved that the most powerful resistance to tyranny isn't violence. It's the absolute refusal to break, no matter the cost.

⭐ The American 🇺🇸 far-right isn’t angry at Europe because of migration or free speech.
They’re angry because Europe disproves their worldview.
🇪🇺 Europe is the proof that civilisation doesn’t need cruelty to survive.
Europe became the living proof that right-wing culture panic is nonsense.
Europe -especially EU - commits the cardinal sin in MAGA world:
👉 It shows you can have
🇪🇺welfare states
🇪🇺 public healthcare
🇪🇺workers’ rights
🇪🇺strong regulations
🇪🇺climate protections
🇪🇺secularism
and still have higher life expectancy, lower crime, fewer guns, better schools, and more stable societies.
This embarrasses the US Right.
It exposes the lie at the heart of MAGA ideology: that social democracy = decline.
So they must manufacture a myth of “civilisational collapse” to defend American exceptionalism.
